When Elsa and Dr. Craft leave the children playing at the beach, the sun is high in the sky. On their walk alone, the sun is setting. Not only would they have left the children alone for hours, but the sun is again high in the sky when they are departing the beach after collecting them.
Lewis asks Tiago if he's ever seen "Beau Geste." While this takes place the year before the 1939 version was released, there was also a silent version in 1926, so it is possible Lewis was referring to that. There's no way little Tiago could have seen it when it was first released, but he could have seen it at a revival screening (not uncommon, especially in a big city like Los Angeles and in poor or minority communities).
