Alien³ (1992)
Underestimated sequel
The Alien series is unique in several aspects - all parts have different directors, each director among the best in the world, and - most important - the producers allowed them to implement their unique styles on the films. And that's the reason the quality of the series stayed almost at a constant level - in opposition to almost all other sequels in movie history.
Part one introduced the terrific idea and part two is a perfect action movie. Fortunately they didn't try to copy one of these in part three (it could only have become worse). Instead Alien 3 puts more emphasis on the characters and the (depressive) mood. The visual style is awesome and the great collection of odd looking people is only surpassed by the cast of 'Der Name der Rose'. The movie has some lengths and some plot holes but nevertheless it impresses me a lot every time I see it.

Intimacy (2001)
Depressive drama
Intellectual drama with terrific acting and consistent mood. I think the explicit sex scenes fit very well into the movie, they support the authenticity and the dirty look of the entire set. The movie has some remarkable scenes, especially those with 2 of the 3 main characters (him, her and her husband).
Unfortunately for me it's a little bit too depressive. I had problems to understand most of the actions and reactions of the characters in the movie so I couldn't identify with anybody or any of their problems. Perhaps I'm not flexible enough ... or I'm just too happy with my life! If somebody has similar problems with the movie I can recommend 'Une liaison pornographique' by Frédéric Fonteyne - it has a related topic and is far more comprehensible.

A Few Good Men (1992)
Entertaining courtroom drama with an excellent script
Good courtroom drama. What really makes the difference to other movies of that kind is the witty script. Especially the dialogues are exceptional. Direction and cast are good; Jack Nicholson delivers a performance to remember (despite being in only three scenes). There are some flaws (Kevin Bacon's weak character, the corny scene after the sentence) but the movie left a good overall impression.
A good example for a 2 hour movie that entertains without the use of action, violence or out of place love stories. One can see that an excellent script and fine actor performances are totally sufficient.

The Tailor of Panama (2001)
Undecisive mix of different genres
After seeing this movie I left the theater with a strange feeling. There are a good story and some nice ideas from the directional side. Geoffrey Rush is excellent as usual and I loved to see Brosnan in his anti-role as an evil spy. Nevertheless I didn't like the movie too much. Its big problem is its undecisiveness. In the beginning it seems to be an espionage thriller but there is no thrill. There are some small historical aspects and political statements but there are too few to make an impression. It's too shallow as a family drama and there are not enough jokes to make you laugh for 2 hours. Later on it seems to be a satire on the whole espionage business (these are the best scenes of the movie). Unfortunately the movie develops the satirical potential of the story too late. When it starts getting interesting the movie is over.
A waste of a good story and cast. 5/10
Oh ... and go see it in OV. Beware the awful german dubbing.
