La grande bouffe (1973)
bizar, but interesting...
Today I saw this movie again, after - I think - about 20 years (I was around 11 to 13 years of age I suppose)... In my memory there was this guy who exploded after eating too much. This movie has been in my mind ever since I saw it in the early '80's and last week I could get my hands on it again. For some reason I have mixed some things up. In my memory they where always eating in the garden and it was summer. It wasn't like that at all... The guy "exploding", wasn't really exploding, that was the toilet :) but he died after farting for several minutes and his bowels just let go... bon appetit!
Anyway, I also didn't had any memory about the sex in the movie, but then again, I was 11 to 13 years when I saw it; sex wasn't really a thing to think about at that age I suppose, food was more important!
I have voted 7 out of 10, 'cause I think it was - in a way - brilliant, but not that brilliant, that I am thrilled by the story itself...
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)
disappointed...
I've got this "thing" with romanctic comedies... They're not exactly my favourite genre (I'm more of a horrorfan), but some movies I really love... Anyway, I rented M.B.F.G.W. on DVD this week, because I heard some good things about it. But I was a bit disappointed when the movie ended... I had expected more "firework" as in: more drama ... maybe like the movie "The Wedding Banquet" (that one was grand!); I know that you can't really compair those two flicks...
Or perhaps I expected more from the Greek "chaos" ... I don't know... anyway: I was disappointed :) sorry ... *lotsof3dots*
The Mists of Avalon (2001)
avarage...
Since I've read the novel by Marion Zimmer Bradley twice, it seemed logical to rent the DVD as well... I had heard some comments from fans of the novel, which weren't very positive; but I've learned not to judge by stories from others and watch myself.
It wasn't completely bad, but I wasn't really thrilled either. The acting was very good though, but I missed some "feeling" here and there.
Ofcourse you can't compare this mini series with (for example) the TV film Merlin (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0130414), but that one is also about Merlin and King Arthur and his knights from the round table. Ok, The Mists of Avalon is about the women behind Arthur and the Knights and about the old ways, which are shown more natural then in any other flick or story about Camelot etc... Anyway, what I really wanted to say is that the Merlin TV film was filmed more "beautiful". But I also understand that Mists of Avalon is not about beauty, so therefore one could say that the director did a good job...
Still, I like the book better :)
Agnes Browne (1999)
simply lovely
I have seen this movie on 21 March 2000. It was the Sneak Preview that day in my home town cinema. I really loved the story. You shouldn't think too much of the story though, since (for example) the Tom Jones Part is really dumb. But I suppose the director put this part in as a joke.
I had a great time watching. Several times I needed extra oxygen (so to speak), 'cause I had to laugh so loud. Especially the scene where Agnes is burying her husband is hilarious!
I shall rent this flick on DVD some time to watch it again (and again and again....)
Resurrection (1999)
neither great neither bad...
*SPOILERWARNING*
I did enjoy watching it, but there where some parts which absolutely weren't done right IMO. The story by itself was good enough, but there where some parts where I was questioning the talents of both director and actors.
Also didn't like all of the camera work, 'cause sometimes it was too shaky... I absolutely dislike history family disasters in a movie, like the thing we saw in this flick... the child of Christopher & his wife being killed in an accident. I understand that it was a suppose to be filmed because of the plot, but didn't like it too much...
And a big not well done part was where they find the body parts and all starting to puke their guts out... I guess it was because of the bad smell. I can't believe they had to puke only from the sight of the cruelness. But in the next scene, it seems they where completely ok with the body parts hanging around... No one seemed to be upset or sick about it anymore...
Anyway, gave it a 7 out of a 10...
The Shining (1980)
This is a movie that's pretty scary
I really loved this movie. It has given me chills. I am not scared easily, but this one was pretty disturbing for me. What a great camera work. I've never seen the movie before (shame on me), but I really want to see it again soon.
One of the best (horror)movies I've ever watched.
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999)
Oh, behave!!!
Very funny!!! I had a really good laugh when I saw the movie on the big screen. Especially when Mini-me appeared, with cat, I almost lost it!
I don't think that Mike Myers should make a third Austin Powers, though. It would be too much.
Night Life (1989)
Boring!!!!
What a boring movie!!! I have hated every minute of it. First of all, it takes almost an hour before anything will happen, and when it happens, the Zombies aren't scary at all... I think it is more like a slapstick movie than a horror.
When the Light Comes (1998)
book is better
I have read the book twice before I found the movie in my video store. I liked the book better, but I did like the movie very much. What a shame that the actress was a girl from Belgium, because of her accent. I loved the surroundings of the film set and really want to go and visit Spitsbergen myself! It is very beautiful there. The thing that I didn't like, was that it was supposed to be dark, but one good see, that a filter was used to make it dark.
