Beauty and the Beast (1976)
By far the best Beauty and the Beast movie
This movie was that good that I have waited for it to appear on TV. again for 28 years now. Where is it? Why don't they put it on again? I am generally a harsh critic. You have to see this movie if you get a chance. I saw it when I was 14 and now I really want my kids to see it. The acting was flawless and the story timeless. It really will peak your imagination. Much better than the Disney movie which I also enjoyed ! George C. Scott did as good of a job in this movie as anything he has done on the big screen and I totally loved him in "Patton". Can someone please release this movie on DVD, as another user is hoping also. The scenery was great in this movie as well from what I can remember. It was just that the whole package was very well put together and meant for adults and children.
A Beautiful Mind (2001)
A fine and typical Ron Howard movie only remotely about Nash
I did enjoy this movie but do not think it should win Best Picture. It was a typical Ron Howard film (feel good, no cursing, Americana). I typically enjoy his films. In comparison to the "bio" of John Nash, written by Nash himself, this film is only very remotely about Nash and more about Schizophrenia. I think adding about 1/2 hour more to the film and showing more of what really happened in Nash's life would have made it better. Read the "bio" of Nash to see what I mean. I thought "Memento" was a much better picture and much more difficult for the director to make. I didn't really find the acting to be any better than many other films I saw this year, either. Sure it was good, and maybe it was the best out of what was nominated. Basically, I feel that the film should not have been about a real character (Nash) if it was not going to be an accurate depiction of his life, outside of his mental problems. I realize that may not have been the point of the film. In which case, it should have been about a fictional person. The direction was good and the story came together well I admit. But should it win Best Picture than it will be one of the least dynamic Best Pictures on the list.
The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)
Excellent directing
One of Scorsese's top 3 movies. I am speaking of technique used and general directing of the movie, not the subject matter. I did not find the subject matter anti-religious and I am a strong Catholic. All of the acting was very good also. Need I say more.
Dellamorte dellamore (1994)
Suprisingly Great Movie
I watched this movie on the Independent Film Channel just as something to do late at night not expecting much. I was very glad I did. This was much better than a "B" Horror film. The filming technique was excellent. It was highly entertaining. Rupert Everett could not have done a better acting job. Anna Falchi's body alone was worth a high vote.
