Hanna's War (1988)
Good story, bad direction
I'm sorry to disagree because I really love the story and the heroine. The movie tells a spectacular story. It's hard to make a movie as good as the story of Hannah Senesh, so it is understandable that it falls a bit short. It is worth watching and could be a good tool to teach children with. There is a scene or two of brutality but the honor of this young paratrooper, a model for feminism decades before there was such a thing as politically correct, comes through despite the failings of the director and writers.
Blues Lahofesh Hagadol (1987)
Beautiful
A beautiful and sensitively done movie showing the effects of war on everyday life.
The movie deals with the people affected by war, barely if at all touching the idea of war. It doesn't take a stand one way or another if the particular war it refers to is right or wrong, rather it shows with great sensitivity what happens to the innocents affected by it. I recommend this movie very highly.
Armageddon (1998)
Come on, you losers!
This movie wasn't meant to have the drama of "Raging Bull" or anything... It was stupid, good, clean fun, that's all. I saw this movie with 3 eleven-year-old children from Ethiopia in a theatre with Hebrew subtitles. They laughed their butts off and they couldn't even understand what people were saying! (My friend and I tried explaining the line about 8-track tapes. Didn't work, go figure.) The movie was fun and stupid, and it made people laugh. The effects were neat, and it was even mildly exciting. If you have so many complaints about a movie that you knew wasn't going to be "Citizen Kane" well, don't watch it again.
