Chinese Box (1997)
A Grand Performance
I have seen this film three times now and it just seems to get better. Gong Li and Jeremy Irons were fabulous along with Maggie Cheung who played a fascinating character. The street scenes I thought really enhanced the ambience of the film and plot. Congrats to all who were involved in this film.
The Avengers (1998)
Hey lighten up, you may have missed the point!!!
I very nearly didn't see this movie because of all the bad feed back i have read and heard. But i thought i'd give it a go. Well, i was glad that i had given it a go. I really do feel that some people have missed the point of this movie. With reference to Steed being gay, he is not meant to be Rambo, more a Gentleman, i thought Ralph was excellent along with Mrs Peel. The wardrobe was great as well, some fantastic 60 outfits worn by Mrs Peel along with some fine Cheong Sams when in her cool London flat. I felt the actual story was great with some realy weird characters, like the original. Interesting to see Shaun Ryder (from Black Grape) as one of the zombie like hench men. I came out of this movie wearing a huge smile and felt that i had been totaly entertained as it seemed to be over so quickly. Overall a really good movie.
Jason and the Argonauts (1963)
Tremendous affect for an old movie.
I can remember seeing this movie when i was a kid, it scared
the heck out of me. I saw it recently on TV and remember thinking how clever the sfx's were for a movie of this age. I feel this really out does all the movies of this type that followed, like Clash of the Titans etc. Great adventure story as well.
The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989)
Brilliant
I have seen this movie on many occasions, the last time being last night on video. It is beautifully filmed with incredible use of colour. I take applaud Michael Gambon, Helen Mirren and Tim Roths performance. Although this movie seemed to appaul so many viewers, I have always found it so very funny especialy the table conversations. The music and wardrobe also stood out and really set the atmosphere perfectly. The movie seems to hold the viewer in suspense right thru to the fantastic ending. This is a must see.
Kundun (1997)
Brilliant
I found this movie a heart warming insight to a fascinating culture and a wonderful person. The cinema-photography was outstanding with many scenes that seem to be lodged firmly in memory. Interesting portrayal of Chairman Mao. A must see.
