Young Doctors in Love (1982)
Extremely funny, even better if you recognize the General Hospital cameos!
This is a great movie. The two subplots are almost better than the main storyline. I've always liked Michael McKean and it was nice to see him in a serious role. If you used to be hooked on General Hospital and recognize the characters in their cameo roles it's even funnier. It's very seldom seen on television but well worth watching, even though they will cut it up a bit.
The Mask of Zorro (1998)
The must see movie of the year, it has everything!
I went to the theater opening day to see this remake of one of my favorite stories, Zorro. I was afraid they'd ruin my hero. I had no need to worry. This is a marvelous movie, A skillful blend of action, comedy and romance with a great plot. The fencing scenes are really good. Hopkins and Bandaras just shine as Zorro and the Zorro for the future. Zeta-Jones is so lovely, and I'll never forget her description of Zorro to her father, "he was vigorous, very vigorous." The scenery, sets and costumes were far above average; the soundtrack hauntingly beautiful. I've been telling everyone to see it, and no one has been disappointed for taking my advice. Zorro lives!
Riders of the Purple Sage (1996)
Excellent movie, better than book. Harris/Madigan terrific!
I have watched this movie countless times and shown it to all my co-workers. It is one of the best movies I've ever seen. The screenplay extracted the best parts from the book, and it became a fantastic western romance. Lassiter is the baddest gunsliger I've ever seen. Amy Madigan was wonderful as Jane Lassiter. All other cast members were equally wonderful. The secondary love story is tender and sweet. It contains a particularly good stunt fall by a bad guy . When he hits the floor, there is no doubt he is dead. Lassiter and Jane's romance is so touching, the reveal-all scene on her porch during the rainstorm touches my heart every time I see it. The final scene is so beautiful I wish I had a picture of it, a kiss in the sunset. I can't praise it enough.
