Good story but predictable and not well developed - Spoiler
13 January 2002
Warning: Spoilers
I always enjoy gay movies with happy endings and this was one of the best endings. However, I figured out the ending by reading the description on the back of the DVD. I expected by the end of the movie that it would be obvious why Keith (instead of Toby)would be Jonathan's "true love." It didn't happen. We saw Keith fall in love with Jonathan but it wasn't until the last scene that we had a clue (besides the box description) that Jonathan was in love with Keith. Still, it gives us all a sense that a true love is waiting for us, and in that, it was a really good movie.

Sets a new standard for gay films
7 June 2001
If Nora Ephron wrote about gay men, she might have written this movie. This is the perfect gay romantic comedy. I went back and lowered my rating on several of the gay films I've rated recently. This movie sets a new standard. There's no sex, no violence, and very little swearing, smoking and drinking. This is a wholesome film about two characters who happen to be gay. The other reviews tell enough about the story for you to understand what happens. I just think it is a beautiful story beautifully told. See it if you get a chance.

One of the best gay-themed movies ever
12 May 2001
This movie was one of the more realistic gay films I've seen. It is very believable that you could find a group of friends as diverse and yet similar as those in the film. Who doesn't know someone just like each of the characters? How many gay men between 23 and 34 can't relate to at least one of the characters in this movie. Strongly recommended.

Good movie with not so good production
10 April 2001
This film was shot on a small budget in just a few days--and it shows. I thought the story was nice, and the script was even good. I would give this movie higher marks if the cinematography and acting had been better. Overall, I recommend the film.

Making Love (1982)

not perfect but awfully good
2 February 2001
I first saw this movie when I was 17. Back then I didn't know why I liked it so much. I watched it again recently and now I know, but the reason is different. I liked it back then because it was the only gay movie I knew about. When I think about the many gay movies I've seen since then, Making Love still holds its own after all these years. It is a very realistic depiction of what, no doubt, many couples have gone through. It doesn't sugar coat anything, and still it manages a happy ending. Rare for gay films of its time.
