I can't believe people really like this film
30 July 2001
Foul language for effect, and I'm no prude. Poor plot. I turned it off about 1 hr. into it. Give me a black and white old 40's movie when they knew how to make them. With real people. Bad hair doo's too. Can you tell that I really didn't like it?

I actually liked it, and I'm kind of tough on movies.

I thought it actually had a sense of realism, although the ending was contrived. Still a good story. I'd like to see the other relentless movies, but they don't appear to have the same cast.

Loved the tennis scene.

Cool. Bruno's weird, his mom is weirder. Barbara's strange, Anne's too nice. Can't believe Anne's father took him in. Loved the clothing, especially the tennis garb and evening wear. Good ole Alfred!

Son of Pretty Bad (or daughter as the case may be)

She's a good TV actress, but women scorned seem to be her genre. I'd like to see her work in some better quality productions. She's the darling of Lifetime TV (that someone I know of calls the "Stayfree Channel"

Good period piece
24 November 2000
I like black and white movies from the 30's and 40's. Claudette is one of my favorite actresses from that period (ever see "So Proudly We Hail" with George Reeves - TV Superman - in a romantic lead, it's too funny). Good clothing and view of the home. Shirley Temple was good, never saw Jennifer Jones that young, wish there had been more of Lionel Barrymore. Hattie McDaniel was excellent, too bad Butterfly McQueen was "edited out". If anyone knows of any other movies from this genre please reply. Thanks!

The Monroes (1966–1967)
30+ years ago, Barbara had talent!

My generation, I actually remember and liked "The Monroes", glad she got out of the sea gull stuff,

Look forward to seeing her on Chicago Hope. Is she the new "stong woman"? It'll be hard to top Christine Lahti, I'll watch just to see Barbara.

12 Angry Men (1957)
The Angry, and why I'm not.
9 September 1999
A great film. I've only even seen parts at different times. I always meant to sit down and watch the whole thing, but too much to do lately, I work. Luckily, AMC is showing it often, so maybe I'll see the whole thing.

But for now - here are my thoughts: Henry Fonda is superb - did the kid really do it? I still don't know. But the character actor suppport is audacious! Everyone is in there - Jack Klugman, Ed Begley, Sr., Martin Balsam, Jack Warden, E.G. Marhshall, what more can we want in black and white? That's when the camera operators show their greatness.

I think 1939 was the greatest film year of all - Grapes of Wrath, Wizard of Oz, and the very special Gone With the Wind.

I watch old black and whites whenever I can - Bette Davis, Claudette Colbert, Veronica Lake (So Proudly We Hail), Lauren Bacall, Clark Gable (my favorite), Humphrey Bogart (Deadline USA'52 is a favorite besides Casablanca), James Stewart (FBI Story one of his best here), they are all the greats. Not one to touch them these days.

Curiously, though - I like the new Drew Barrymore. She's become a woman.

Carol Young Foley Just my picks.

I remembered it, loved the Lana version, but had to see the real thing.
7 July 1999
I knew I had seen it on tv many years ago, guess it's not shown anymore, possibly because of racial overtones. Lana and Sandra Dee were great, but not the actress Claudette Colbert was. Wonderful drama, but Claudette is my favorite. Her partner and Steve, as well as the costumes are memorable. It's a period piece - life in the USA the way it really was. I award the original a 9, the remake, although updated and excellent, a 7.

great bogey and supporting characters/that's the press, baby.

An idealistic view of what a newspaper does every day - not every story a great one, but what we deliver is important. Good for the newspaper person's soul - newspapers in PA have just done a great series on "sunshine" - the citizen's ability to see public records. We are invited into the home and subscribers pay to receive us, unlike broadcast journalism. Makes me feel good, and I'm on the advertising side. This is what I sell.
