Die Hard 2 (1990)
What a stupid movie
The original "Die Hard" was an awesome movie.
Meanwhile, "Die Hard 2" was awesomely stupid.
Among other things, airliners would not be kept circling for hours until "running on fumes".
Terrible story, terrible direction. Avoid it at all costs!
Return to Campus (1975)
a wasted opportunity
This movie had a potentially great plot. A man's college days were interrupted by World War II, and now (25-30 years later) he has the chance to finish his education.
He's a widower, so the opportunity for romance is there (with a teacher at the college, as it turns out). In addition, his son is attending the same college, so there's the potential for conflict OR comradeship between the two.
But wait - there's more! The father has crafted some sort of athletic shoe with a spring inside it, which lets him kick a football for an unreasonably long distance. So he also becomes a member of the football team.
This _could_ have been a pretty nice movie - but the execution of it (not to mention the script and the acting) was deathly dull. As I watched it I kept waiting for something to happen ... but it didn't. The most exciting moment of the movie occurred during the closing credits, when I realized I wouldn't have to watch any more of it.
I would have walked out on it if it hadn't been double-billed with George Pal's "Doc Savage", and I'd prescribe it only to those who suffer from extreme insomnia.
Update: if you want to see how bad it is, you can now see it on YouTube.
Look for "The World's Greatest Kicker" on the Sprocket Vault channel.
Roswell (1999)
Well worth watching ...
I won't go into a long description of the plot, since you can get that from previous posts.
"Roswell" may very well appeal to the "teenage heartthrob" audience - but it also appeals to this 43-year-old.
I enjoy it for its mix of humor and suspense, and the characters who populate the series (but NO ... "Max Evans" can't REALLY be 26, can he?).
I don't watch much TV - partly because my system administrator job takes up more than the standard 40 hours a week, but mostly because I find most TV to be a waste of my time.
But "Roswell" has joined "Buffy" and "Angel" on my short list of must-see shows, and I'd strongly suggest you give it a try.
Dilbert (1999)
uneven, but worth watching anyway
It doesn't have quite the humor density (defined as humorous moments divided by time spent) that the comic strip has, and some of the episodes are weak (product testing by Bob Bastard comes to mind).
But there have been enough bright spots (Dilbert's new job at Nirvana Engineering AND the recent trip to Elbonia, for example) to keep it on my weekly calendar.
