Jesse James (1939)
A great Western
Take a memorable, famous outlaw's story and make a movie of it with a cast that includes: Power, Fonda, Donlevy, Maek, Darwell and Scott and you have ten. But one off for historical inaccuracies. Jane Darwell was such a fine-seeming woman - and she Henry Fonda seem so frequently to have been casted together.
Simon Birch (1998)
Magnificent
Most movies aren't as good as the book This one equals or exceeds. The entire cast was excellent. I was as taken with the Sunday school teacher as with the main characters. A 10!
Message in a Bottle (1999)
Mush
For those who enjoy lacrimating, especially women, you'll like this film. Some beautiful scenery (why so much in Maine in lieu of NC?) Contrary to some comments, I thought its saving grace, in addition to the actors, was the ending. Overall, though, in the immortal words of Snow White's Grumpy, "Mush".
Curtain Call (1998)
Spader silly, annoying; plot hackneyed; Walker and house beautiful
Spader silly and annoying; plot hackneyed; Walker and the house gorgeous, especially the old wood. Boring overall. Not as comedic as it intends Don't bother to see it
The Four Feathers (1939)
Magnificent
Perhaps the greatest adventure film ever made. Score it 10 by me as an unforgettable experience. I have now seen it seven times at least. The cinematography of the Nile and Egypt are breath taking.
