Love & Basketball (2000)
Oh so corny!!!
I had high hopes for this one after reading earlier reviews but it was so slow and the plot so basic that well I wondered if I had read the wrong reviews.
Please, a boy meets girl next door at 11 and both aspire to love and being basketball legends. Grow apart, but watch each others progress. Guess what! Both get scholarships to same university and become lovers again until his father is caught out playing around with a younger woman. Our young hero unable to cope has lapse in court concentration but some how decides to go pro and drop studies, and guess what is picked up by Lakers. Dumps the heroine because she was not there for him during this emotional period. So for 5 years they go their own way. She returns from Spain having lost the zest for the game and our hero is getting married in two weeks. Mom tells her that she should fight for her love so she professes her on-going love and challenges him to a basketball shootout. He wins he marries she wins he loves her. Well he won but decides to dump other girl for our girl. The End has her playing basketball and he has baby duties. Sorry 2 is my high score. My partner she scored 0 for a soapy story for those who read Mills and Boon
Dance Me to My Song (1998)
Rather watch paint dry
The story was so slow and maybe thats what the director wanted to portray reality. What can you expect from a woman in her condition. Gratuitous nudity and totally far fetched plot. The main male character was not realised with regard to where he went and why he had so many caller at her home.
The Soul Collector (1999)
sappy feel good movie with poor ending
This film one would think was a woman's film but the rating say otherwise. The chemistry between the female and male lead was the only interesting part of this film. If it was acting then that is impressive! Watch it if your not really wanting to get engaged because you won't.
Cat People (1982)
Riveting
This film is a classic scary in the mould of "American Werewolf in London". Keeps you engaged from the start. Possibly the last 10 minutes could have been more thought out but ......
Words can not express the beauty of Natasha Kinski.
Must see!!
The Island on Bird Street (1997)
True story of courage and faith but......
A beautiful story of a little boy's love and faith in his father set during a time of great shame for all mankind. A lesson we still revisit now! Good acting etc but the script dragged at times and I would have liked to know more about the other characters that came and went.Who was the character that was shot and then nursed by the boy? A polish freedom fighter or a Jewish man on the run? Why was the Doctor arrested? etc etc. 7/10
Scenes from a Mall (1991)
Outstanding comedy about a relationship at the change in life period
If you enjoy a film full of subtle one liners then this is one you must see. Allen and Midler are their best delivering on cue subtle gags which relate to our hidden fears at growing old. Sit back and enjoy and laugh especially if you're reaching that time of life.
