Everwood (2002–2006)
8/10
It has potential, definately worth a second look

With the disaster of "Good Advice" I was hoping for the best but expected the worst. Treat has always been good at dramatic film but has suffered from ill written comedies. Everwood is the right mix of drama and humor giving Treat the ability to show his talent. Treat seems comfortable in the role and has the benefit of some fine supporting players. Both Gregory Smith and Vivien Cardone were strong in their performances but the writing is perhaps what astonished me the most. If you are lucky you have three or four strong characters and yet I find myself wondering about the rest of the cast. They all seem to have well developed, well defined characters, except for the over simplified caricature of the other town doctor. In Canada it appears the show will move from it's premiere position on Monday night to Saturday night which I feel is the graveyard of many well intentioned shows. Having survived filming in Canmore's worst Spring on record we do understand that -25C temperatures are not ideal for outdoor shooting. Having said that perhaps the shooting for the balance of the series will remain pretty much indoors so we won't miss the beautiful mountains that were only in the pilot episode. I hope to watch the continuing adventures of the Brown family and wonder if the Network is brave enough to consider an affair between the doctor and his married neighbor. It's time to show the reality of loneliness on a married woman.

Who Dunnit that keeps you guessing right till the last scene!

This film was better than expected and enough of the characters were developed to the point that it was very difficult to guess just who might be the killer. You would make up your mind and then change it over and over again. The violence was not as graphic as it might have been and they spent more time on the characters which is a change. Strong acting from many of the young actors was an unexpected surprise. A cut above the typical teen movie.

Random Hearts (1999)
What a disappointment!
9 October 1999
I like Harrison Ford and Kirsten Scott Thomas and expected so much more. Again the whole obsession thing with Harrison Ford had you soon going, "Get over it, she's dead". I guess he was such a loser that it seemed unlikely that in any way Kirsten would have been even remotely attracted to him. The whole sub plot with him being a cop totally didn't work. Please give the man another occupation. He's a good actor and there are other interesting occupations besides "cop". A very poorly written screenplay didn't help, hope they didn't pay the writer too much. The only redeeming value are shots of Washington and Alexandria as I have visited both and it's always good to see the scenery again. Skip this one and watch "Six Nights, Seven Days" again or go see "The Horse Whisperer".
