High Tension (2003)
10/10
Holy Crap!!! Almost too much. . .way over the top!!
11 June 2005
Wow, I'd read up on this before going so I kinda knew what to expect, or at least I thought I did, but it was way more than we'd bargained for. Grisly, intense, and shocking to the extreme. I knew the ending before going also, and I think if I didn't it would've been much worse as far as the scare factor goes.

A word to the wise. . . DO NOT take your better half to this movie unless you want to spend a week or so in the doghouse afterward. Mine isn't all that squeamish as a rule, but this one got to her and she blew a head gasket about 15 minutes into it and wanted to leave. I kept telling her the worst was probably over and we should stick it out a little longer, but it just kept getting worse and worse. Really bad judgment on my part, but like I said, I thought it was just going to be another slasher movie, which we've seen so many of. This is way beyond that, so be warned.

Subject matter aside, this movie was technically well done, the only fault being the lighting during the daytime scenes, of which there were few anyway, so it wasn't a big deal.

Most people are bitching about the ending and they have a point I guess, but it didn't bother me in the least and I thought it was OK. There were a few plot holes though, like who the hell was the guy in the truck getting a blow job from the decapitated head near the beginning of the flick? Considering the ending, what was THAT all about?

Bottom line, if you are immune to being grossed out to the max and have a cast-iron stomach, and like scary horror movies, you're gonna love this. . . . .

Cursed (2005)

Wow, what a fun time we had with this one. . . . . a great flick!! 9/10

We went to this movie not knowing how it was going to be, since neither my girlfriend or I had heard much about it. I checked IMDb for comments as I usually do before seeing something and didn't have very high expectations "going in", but we've learned time and time again that you can't always go by what the general feeling is among the nationwide audience. We are 40-somethings who love the horror genre, and have been quite disappointed as of late with some of the fare that has been served up in this category, but NOT THIS TIME!!! We both loved everything about this flick, and I am stunned in disbelief when I read how some others are evaluating it. It always amazes me how different people's opinions can be.

We both thought this movie had a great storyline, excellent production values throughout, very good special effects, a kicking' soundtrack, ample humor in the right places, plenty of "jump scenes", and very little "down time", that is, the movie was fast paced and held your interest very well, with no boring periods of any significance. I can't imagine anyone not loving this movie, though I know they're out there somewhere!! Go see it, you'll LOVE IT!!

An absolutely GREAT movie!!

This movie was so engrossing, we both just loved every aspect of it. Go see it soon before it gets away. I promise you won't be bored for a second. It roars right along at a breakneck pace, and you don't want to go for popcorn after it starts or you'd miss a lot. A solid 9/10.

Stay away. . . you've been warned!!

I'm a big fan of Chris Rock's stand-up comedy, and also a Bernie Mac fan too, but there's nothing funny about this movie and it was a huge disappointment. I thought it would never end, a minute watching this seemed like forever. The storyline just didn't cut it either. Avoid this like the plague. . . . . 2/10.

Not bad. . . not bad at all!!!

If you saw the first it was pretty good. . .this one is better. The storyline is about the same, not great, but GOOD. The special effects are much, much better, and better "kills" too. The opening car accident scene is the highlight of the movie so you want to pay attention to that. A cool ending too. I'm going with an 8/10.

Another Martin Lawrence winner!!
20 January 2003
I don't know what it is about Martin Lawrence that makes him so funny, but he's sure got something working for him. I've liked him in everything I've seen him in, and this film is no exception. That said, it was Steve Zahn that really was the spice that makes this movie work. It's a great film, very funny, and good acting, though the script is a bit weak this time around. Nonetheless, very worthwhile. A solid 8/10.

Don't miss this one!!

This was a really entertaining and engrossing movie all the way through. At two hours and twenty minutes it seemed like an hour and a half. Walken and DiCaprio were excellent, and Hanks even better than that!! Good character development, no slow spots, and enough humor too. Very, very good. 8/10

I enjoyed this movie a lot, it was fast-paced, intriguing, well acted, good plot, ample humor, and lots of chemistry between Julia Roberts and both Brad Pitt and James Gandolfini. I highly recommend it. 8/10!!

Funny and entertaining--8/10

I don't know about anyone else, but I go to these kinds of movies for only one reason, and that's to laugh. You have to let yourself not be so serious all the time. It's OK to indulge in some "escapist fare" occasionally. Was this movie moronic? Well, maybe. Was it funny? Hell yes!! Did it entertain me? Yes, a lot. I loved it. Martin Lawrence has always been good in whatever movies I've seen him in. If you like to laugh and have fun, check this out. Another Martin Lawrence movie you'll like is "Life", co-starring Eddie Murphy. It's more of a drama but still very good.

Very funny movie, be sure to see it.

Saw this one on video but it was still great. Entertaining and clever plot, and lots of laughs. Jack Black and Steve Zahn are perfect for their roles, but I think Amanda Peet was the best part of this movie. A solid 8 out of 10.

If you like lots of action, slick camera work, a dynamite sound track, great character development, and an intriguing plot, AND can tolerate gory, graphic violence to the extreme, you'll get a lot of bang for your buck with this movie. The acting was excellent, especially Kevin Costner. There is very little "down time" in this story. You better catch this one in the theatre for full effect!! 9 out of 10.

Frustrating at times, but definitely not boring!!!
17 March 2000
Better than the average slasher film because the "slasher" was the grim reaper, an unknown and almost unstoppable entity, much harder to deal with, there just wasn't anywhere to escape, and nothing you could do to "cheat death". The character development was OK, but not great. All in all the movie was well done, good special effects too. There was one annoying character in the movie, that was its worst point. I recommend this and give it 8 out of 10!!!
