Red Shoe Diaries (1992)
For David Duchovny Fans
A good movie if you want to see a pre-X-file D. Duchovny (talking dirty and shirtless). Also, if you like erotica, then this is a good movie for you. It is filmed with a lot of strange lights and shadows that sets the dark mood of the movie.
Vanity Fair (1998)
A movie without a Hero
I enjoyed Vanity Fair. However, it probably won't be on my top ten list of mini-series to watch. I love Andrew Davies work, but the character of Becky Sharp was dialogued rather sparsely. How many times can Ms. Sharp "look sultry and seductive" instead of speaking? The stand-outs in the cast are the man who played William Dobbins (Phillip Glenister) and Joss Sedley (Jeremy Swift).
An Ideal Husband (1999)
Got to Love Those English Actors
I have to say I was a bit disappointed with AIH. I am a total anglophile, but this movie seemed a little flat to me. I couldn't hear/understand half the dialogue and the plot was straight out of a dime regency romance novel. I did think that the actors, for the most part, did an excellent job with what they had to work with. Particularly Jeremy Northam (whom I've had a crush on ever since seeing him in London 6 years ago) and Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth). This moving would be best on video where you can rewind to see what you've missed in dialogue.
