Miracle at St. Anna (2008)
Very disappointing
The story is all over the map, and not very plausible. A postal clerk shoots a man who comes to his window to buy stamps. That much is clear. The rest is a hodgepodge of flashbacks and disjointed scenes that are confusing and difficult to follow. The movie tries to portray the story of the WWII "Buffalo Soldiers", the horrors of war, racial prejudice, a murder mystery and combines it with mysticism. Some of the acting is first rate, while others clearly need acting lessons. The only thing that saves this movie is the filming and special effects, which are excellent. At the end of the movie, the audience is left wondering the identity of the victim killed at the beginning of the movie was, and what exactly was the miracle that occurred! The sex and more especially the violence makes the movie "off limits" for children under the age of 18.
If Spike Lee was trying to present a movie equal to "Saving Private Ryan", he missed by a mile!
Harry's War (1981)
A prophecy?
I find it quite fascinating that Congress is finally attempting to "rein in" the IRS! I have not seen this movie since it first came out in 1981. Trying to find it anywhere without remembering the exact name of the film, or anyone else who had seen it was quite frustrating.
Anyone who has ever had any dispute with the INFERNAL(yeah, I know what I wrote!) Revenue Service, or been audited by them knows how utterly helpless they can make you feel. They can attach your salary, freeze all your assets, etc. and do not even have to notify you that they have done so! If you bounce a check, YOU are responsible!
At any rate, this movie illustrates "taxation without representation" and how one person chose to deal with it. It was ahead of its time, and is quite prophetic of how events would eventually come about. If you ever get a chance to see it, DO SO! It is humorous, with the sting of truth!
Fate Is the Hunter (1964)
When it's your time, it IS your time.
This is a great movie. I only saw it once, and that was in 1964, when it first came out. I wish it were available in VHS format, but it is not. If only some cable station would air it, I would love to record it! It is a great story of what life is, not what we want it to be. It illustrates the many zany and unusual things that can happen to change our lives forever. It goes to show you, when it's your time to leave this world, not matter WHAT you do, it is your time.
A Hard Day's Night (1964)
You have GOT to be kidding!!
Either we all haven't seen the same movie, or we definitely have different tastes here! Nobody is a bigger Beatle fan than me. That's why I have to say, they should have stayed with making hit records! This movie is the pits! I have the original Beatles album, and was there when it first hit the airwaves, and yes, I saw them on the Ed Sullivan show. Truthfully, I don't care for any of The Beatles movies...Yellow Submarine was awful too. That's my two cents. There, now I feel better, I'll go put on "I Want To Hold Your Hand" on my 45 record player!
