The Killer (2023)
Solid film
12 November 2023
The only drawbacks for me was the constant monologue in the protagonist's head told out loud, and it starts out somewhat slow for me.

Other than that, if you like films such as Payback or Man on Fire, this is somewhat like them. At least that was my thought while watching. Our lead has to work, 'up the chain' as it were, to exact revenge on others in his assassin network after botching a job.

Fantastic fight sequence in the middle of the film was outstanding.

The look and style of the film was good and I thought that the music really stood out. This is definitely a must watch on Netflix.

The Last of Us (2023– )
Less talking, more action, please
17 March 2023
I'll admit. I'm not a big fan of zombie television with long, introspective, talking episodes. The beginning 10-15 minutes of TLoU was fantastic. I just wished they had dragged the initial apocalypse out over a couple of episodes. I don't know anything about the games so I have nothing to compare like others here. For me, the best episodes were the ones with actual zombies in them. And, they were few and far between.

The one episode with the mass of zombies coming out of the ground was fantastic. Unfortunately, much of the show episodes are, talking and introspection and good guys vs. Bad (living) guys.

Give me a show like Black Summer, anytime. There's definitely less talking, and more action on that series. Also, the episodes are only around 35 mins or so. Not enough time for script meandering.

6/10.

End of the Road (II) (2022)
Don't waste your time with this one
11 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's 2022 but it felt like this script for this movie was written circa 1975. Stereotypes of rural, bigoted, whites in full force and very cringe. I don't even think Dukes of Hazard had all of these tropes. The only thing this family didn't come across was a Klan burning. Just a really stupid movie.

A woman (professional nurse) beating up some skinheads had to be one of the dumbest scenes in a movie. I couldn't figure if this thing was supposed to be drama, thriller, or comedy.

I can't believe Queen Latifah is even in this mess of a movie. Netflix must offer some really good checks. Maybe I should write a script...

Resident Evil (2022)
Not as bad as IMDB drama queens suggest
19 July 2022
Solid 6/10

Held my interest. I don't play video games I only have watched the movies. This TV series is as good as the movie series. The only initial irritation I had was the constant flashbacks. But, the young actors were great, didn't annoy me at all (as teen and pre-teen characters can do) and Lance Reddick is always great in whatever he plays in. The infected were scary. SFX was thumbs up. The story moved quickly and that's all I needed.

Invasion (2021–2024)
Couldn't stomach a single human in this show...aliens were interesting though
14 December 2021
Navy Seal - stumbles around like a zombie for multiple episodes. Either in quiet mode or YELLING mode. Annoying Doctor - Just plain dumb and annoying. HOW was she a doctor?

Her husband - weak and annoying. Cheated on his wife, but understandable, since she's very annoying.

Her kids - annoying The bus of kids - really annoying The mopey Japanese tech (cue the overwrought background music). Nearly every episode staring into her mopey face. Annoying.

The aliens were the best thing about the show. Too bad they waited until very late in the series to give them some actual screen time.

Just go back and watch Falling Skies. It was much better than this boring melodrama.

Don't listen to the over dramatic critics. If you like Babylon Berlin, chances are you will like this too.

Not horror. Nothing more than a family drama.

Warning: Spoilers
I wished that the annoying mom and her two annoying kids had been eaten by the locusts. That would have made the movie far better, because I seriously started speeding through the last 20 mins of this dud.

Comedy gold!
25 July 2021
This is TRULY one of those movies that are so bad, that you will find yourself laughing at the acting, direction, effects, writing, production, and anyone else involved with this t3rd of a 'movie'. Enjoy!

I Care a Lot (2020)
Great ending!
13 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Couldn't stand Rosamund Pike's character and for a moment it looked liked she was about to get away with something she put into motion and wouldn't back out of because of pride and greed. Thankfully, the writer saw fit for this arrogant narcissist to be shot dead at the end. Phew!

The movie overall was OK. The acting was fine.

Solid thriller with a nice twist. The snowy setting makes you want to bundle up while on the sofa. Relax and enjoy it. It's good.

Students calling their teacher by first name was weird
18 January 2021
Maybe in the 21st century it is done like this. I don't know. What I do know is students calling their teachers by first name took me out of the show for a few moments every time. 'Viruca!', 'Raquel!'. Maybe that is a Euro thing. Good for a one time watch. Viruca was a complex character (as are many people) and not portrayed as an angel. I liked that. 6/10

Guilty Pleasure
28 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Pretty good, though it suffers from same problem as other shows like this. Allegiances and moods swing back and forth in the blink of an eye (too unrealistic). Also, these supposed underage kids have more sex and boozing than adults twice their ages. Don't get me started on the coed sauna--wished there was one when I was in high school. Convoluted plot points are to be expected in a soap-ish type series like this and those don't really bother me (like overlooking that Cassie has months/years of rehab ahead and is NO threat to anyone. Or, how a street cop, not a detective, has plenty of time to devote to this one case). It's basically ELITE (another Netflix show) taking place in a ballet school instead of a elite private school. Give it a try.

Tenet (2020)
A long and confusing movie
14 December 2020
Good effects, nice visuals, and good acting (except for our protagonist-who was flat). I almost started to fast forward the last hour because of the continuous extended talking scenes throughout this movie that shed zero clarity as you went along. By the end, I just wanted it to be over.

Rogue (I) (2020)
Primal - on dry ground
12 November 2020
Sorry, but the Nic Cage version of lion gets loose and creates havoc between good and bad guys was better than this. Rogue wasn't good nor was it bad. Just so-so.

Backstreets back, alright! Super cringe moment.

Don't believe these hysterically critical reviews
10 November 2020
This movie is pretty decent. The score and camera work reminds me of Body Double, another De Palma film. Maybe the music used works better in a NY or LA setting but it wasn't a movie killer for me. Terrorist plotline is somewhat worn out for me but still held my attention. Give the film a try.

The Courier (2019)
Wow! Terrible movie
6 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I get it. Even fine actors like Gary Oldman still have to pay bills. But man, this movie is a real stinker. Comically so. I mean, as others have stated, terrible editing, terrible overacting, unbelievable action.

Olga K is NOT a Charlize Theron kicking butt as a tough femme. She is totally miscast and hard to take seriously.

Gary Oldman was hamming it up in some scenes so bad that it was just cartoonish 'PUT THE CHAMPAGNE BACK!'. Jeez, super cringe.

The 'team lead' of the assassins was another terrible ham who makes you cringe with his ridiculous overacting.

Choppy fight scenes, hard to follow what is going on.

A team of buff assassins get taken out by our tough femme one by one.

The end was a stupid cliffhanger that will make you go WHAT?, I pray that they are not planning a sequel.

If you want to watch a comedy disguised as a thriller this is the perfect movie for you. I certainly found myself laughing at it for almost the full runtime.

More like drama/mystery and I had fun watching it. The middle 3rd had me scratching my head a little bit but everything came together in the end. The final 3rd twist was nicely executed. Good movie.

6/10 - For now
17 October 2020
If there's a season 2, for the love all holy popcorn, please just STOP with the unnecessary DRAMA. Between people on the SAME SIDE. It just makes all of the characters annoying. Other than that nuisance bit of writing, it's an entertaining show.

No talking you to death about the meaning of life or how the new reality of zombies has existential metaphorical purpose. Good jump scares, actual action, and the pervasive feeling of the leads being under constant threat makes this a fun movie to watch.

Da 5 Bloods (2020)
Solid Film
19 July 2020
Even though I wasn't really in the mood for a 2.5hr movie - Spike Lee or not, I'm glad that I watched. Entertaining, thought provoking, and even humorous during certain scenes. People giving this a 1 rating are the types who are easily disappointed in life. Yes, I can do without the 4th wall monologues - but, that's a Spike device in a few of his films. It never really dragged for me. I must say, Vietnam is a beautiful country and I hope to visit someday.

365 Days (2020)
Netflix's ELITE for adults
5 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Man. This was definitely NOT a 1 star movie, in fact, it wasn't half as bad as I was expecting it to be.

Glitz, glamor, mafia, sex, pop music, murders, sexual dynamics, and high livin'. The only downer for me was the constant insertion of those crazy pop songs in nearly every scene. If I want to watch music videos I can go to Youtube for that. Can't people write scores with strings and pianos anymore?

Also, I'm not prude, but the love scenes between the lead characters were veering into pornhub territory as they went on and on and on..and, of course, with the crap singing music in the background.

Very sad ending. I thought it would be Massimo dying in the gang war, but instead, it was Laura at her happiest. Pregnant, anxious, and planning her wedding--with her best friend in town. Please, next time, leave the constant music with a show like ELITE, it works better there.

Ton of shooting and explosions couldn't cover the boredom
15 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Unlikeable characters, seriously, if Shelby died like the other two main characters, I could have cared less. Another movie with random, annoying music thrown in. By the time they got to the heist, I just wanted the torture of watching this mess to be over. Lead character (Bricke), I never bought any kind of 'American' vibe from and it was distracting. 5/5 because of Pitt and some of the action. It was still too long, confusing, and boring of a movie, though.

Zombie Dawn (2011)
Somewhere in the middle

This one had potential, but not enough cash to hire better actors and production. Not a bad flick, script wise, I thought. Recommend for watching if there's nothing else on your calendar and you need a zombie movie fix.

Good script ruined by horrible acting
3 May 2020
I saw the reviews here before watching but decided to take a chance. I thought the script and plot were good. But, the show was completely ruined by the acting, editing, directing. The acting was soooooo bad at points (adult Trevor for one) that I actually found myself laughing.

With more money, better production, AND actors, this could have been a pretty good show.

As expected, it's junk
27 January 2020
I expected nothing going into this and it delivered. I only watched to say to myself that I gave it a watch. Annoying music, stale jokes, overdone quick cuts, flash and sizzle with no meat on the bones. Photography was nice, though. Netflix has officially become the 'straight to..' option over DVDs.
