Joy Ride (2001)
Shockingly Good
The DVD version of this movie is very good. Multiple endings are available including a completely different 30 minute ending. I didn't see this in the theaters because the trailers didn't impress me but I admit I was wrong. Go rent this movie. It's worth it.
Murder by Numbers (2002)
Bad Scriptwriting by Numbers
I saw Murder by Numbers last night at a free advance screening to college students on the campus of Kent State. I think the studio is hoping to generate buzz among 18-25 yr olds by showing it free. Unfortunately it was a complete waste of time. Every cliche used in better movies is utilized from the angry police chief to the detective(Bullock) who know's the true killer's identity but no one believes her. It's almost as if the writers of this started with an interesting script and then slowly wrote them selves into a corner as the movie progressed. If you're like me you'll find yourself hoping against hope for a surprise twist at the end but don't hold you're breath. There is none. Add this movie to Bullock's impressive resume of Speed 2 and Love Potion #9. Don't waste your time or money.
Enemy at the Gates (2001)
What a disappointment.
The story had so much promise and a budget of 90 million+. The movie made the mistake of throwing in the standard love story, ruining the chemstry in the battle/hunt scenes. The movie also runs long. Also, you will grow tired of somehow Ed Harris and Jude Law always knowing where to find each other in the huge city of Stalingrad. Not believable. Don't waste your $ or time on this one.
Jake's Women (1996)
One of the best movies ever, hands down.
My wife and I were watching tv and flipping the stations until we saw a tv movie beginning on cbs called Jake's Women. Keep in mind that I dislike made for television movies as much as going to the dentist or repeating my senior year in college. TV movies are horrible. However, as with life, there are exceptions to everything. Jake's Women is the best TV movie EVER made. The acting level is so high, we were amazed. If you ever have the chance to see this, do it. You will be so surprised. We were. This is one of the best movies ever made.
Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things (1972)
Boring
Boring. The movie has very little gore. Not that NOTLD did either, but Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things seemed to go nowhere. Nothing is surprising. There isn't any action until the final 20 minutes of the movies and even that was predictable and done before in much better style. If you're looking for a horror gem, skip this one and keep on looking. It's not worth your time.
The Haunting (1999)
Horrible!
What a horrible movie! I couldn't be paid enough to sit through that garbage again. I love horror movies and this was bland beyond belief. There were so many holes in the plot. Nothing was scary. I'm so tired of movies that use too many special effects and involve virtually no plot. Please don't waste your time or money...
Return to Paradise (1998)
One of the best performances of the year
Anne Heche delivers one of the top performances by a female in 1998. She received very little recognition for her performance. The movie works well on many levels. Women will love the character driven tale. Go see it. Joseph Ruben uses nature and is masterful at photography...
Quella villa accanto al cimitero (1981)
Wasted Time I can never get back
I love movies with a theme of cemeteries and haunted houses. This cheap italian movie was terrible. You'll want to shoot your tv every time you hear the little boy's dubbed voice. Don't waste your time. Learn from my mistake
