The Finalist (2011)
4 actors wait for a director to decide their fate
Hilarious inside view of the agony actors go through in the casting process by very talented veteran director Armand Mastroianni. Great looking short movie; looks like a big budget project. Mind blowing twist at the end. Nice ensemble cast consisting of Chris Muto, Paul Elia, Adrian Gaeta, and Ben Gavin work well together as competitive actors who try to bond as they wait for a fateful phone call... only one of them will get the role they have been called back for five times each. Anybody's who's ever gone on an audition will appreciate the casting scene which made me laugh out loud. This will surely be a festival favorite, check it out!
The Monkey's Paw (2010)
Excellent, moody work full of atmosphere and great visuals.
Well directed creepy retelling of a classic tale. Full of great Gothic atmosphere. Highly recommended. I have been a big fan of this story since I was a kid. Great example of subtle horror; it's what you don't see but that you know is coming! Ricky Lewis does a great job creating the world and taking advantage of the subtle horror of the story. Well shot with great locations; Lewis knows how to get the most out of what was probably a pretty small budget... but it doesn't look it. This is a filmmaker to watch! He's made other excellent short films as well, check them out if you can. This piece also has a really lush score, which adds a lot to the eerie atmosphere.
