***Spoilers***
20 December 2001
Warning: Spoilers
This movie rocks. There are so many differences from the book and yet the overall story is not harmed in any way. Some differences (other than the big ones we knew of: Arwen, Bombadil etc): Intro narrated by Galadriel depicting the history of the ring. Gandalf sends Frodo and Sam on their own telling them he'll meet them at the Prancing Pony. Pippin and Merry join the band while running away from Farmer Maggot. No Crickhollow, no Fatty Bolger. No singing at the Prancing Pony, instead Frodo trips and accidently slips the ring on. Arwen brings on the flood at the Ford, not Elrond. No mention is made of Gandalf having added the horses effect. Gandalf sends a butterfly to fetch Gwaihir; No Radagast. The council of Elrond is very concise, most of it having been shown in the Intro. Gimli suggests going through Moria, not Gandalf. Saruman commands the storm on Caradras. A lot more is shown of the Watcher in the lake than is described in the book. Frodo figures out the 'Mellon' password, not Gandalf. Gandalf tells Frodo that Gollum has been following them for three days. No blindfolding at Lothlorien. No Sam at the mirror of Galadriel, instead Frodo sees both visions. Galadriel's ring is not used in the script, although you do see it on her finger at the departure of the Fellowship. Saruman creating his army of Uruk-Hai is given quite a bit of screen time. The breaking of the fellowship is different. Frodo tells Aragorn that he will go into Mordor alone; Aragorn agrees. These are just some of the differences I can remember; as you can see, they do not impact the story very much. Goose bump sequences: The hobbits are fleeing the Back Rider and run right into him. Bilbo's reaction to seeing the ring once more. Galadriel's test at the mirror. Awesome, really scary. Ultra cool sequences: Anything with the Nazgul, especially Weathertop. Arwen and Frodo's ride to the ford. The balrog. This movie is just spectacular. I loved it. Biggest regret: Not enough of Tolkien's poetry, especially the prophecy from Boromir's dream.

Suffering of Love
31 October 2000
I watched this movie about 10 years ago with portuguese subtitles. It was called 'Sofrimento de Amor'- 'Suffering of Love', and I really struggled to find it on the IMDB. The story is a real tearjerker. Prem and Preeti are in love. Her father destroys the relationship by maliciously lying to Prem. Prem goes away thinking it's for the best. Meanwhile Preeti is pregnant and has his child. You meet the boy when he is about 10 years old. He is a cripple and befriends Prem without knowing he is his father. The songs in this movie are fantastic and the ending is brilliant.

The Matrix without all the hype
23 May 2000
I really enjoyed this movie. It had me second guessing right up till the end. It's a combination of The Matrix and Time Cop, but with much better acting and writing. I especially enjoyed the idea of a world with distance limitations. The Truman Show and Dark City used this idea as well, but here, it is taken to the nth degree. I mean, a virtual world inside a vitual world!! Wow! The murder mystery plot was great. This movie also makes you think about how far Man will go with virtual reality. All in all, a great whodunnit sci-fi thriller. 8/10

PS: I wonder if Douglas Hall was named after Douglas Fairbanks. Steve Bierko looks so like him in his thirties look.

Great eighties music
21 December 1999
This movie was originally released as four 1hour episodes in Italy under the name: Cindy. I have, however only seen the movie version. I loved this movie. The story is loosely based on Cinderella. Cindy is a small time singer in New York who goes to Rome, Italy with her step mother and step sisters. She meets up with Mizio, a biker who lives in an abandoned warehouse, who also happens to sing. Little does Cindy know that he is the son of a wealthy prince. Needless to say, they fall in love. The Cinderella story has been done and redone and over done, but where this movie succeeds is in the great music. Any lover of eighties pop music will love the melodies in this movie. Bonnie Bianco was one of the best singers from Europe and she excels in this movie. She's not a bad actress either.
