So sad
20 January 2024
It is hurtful to see the decay of a formerly talented actor like Bruce Willis in this movie.

It is obvious that he is no longer himself, only saying oneliners and having the exact same face expresssion throughout the whole movie.

Thanks for all the other movies you gave us, Bruce 🙏🏻 And all the best to you.

As for the rest of the cast including the director - alltogether poor performances and no excuse.... This must be one of the worst and most amateur movies of all times.

I am sure the director saw it as a giant scoop getting Bruce Willis on the cast, but even when he was still in good health he could not have saved this parody.

Deeply disturbing
20 December 2013
Deeply disturbing movie about a bunch of sorry characters in the suburbs of Copenhagen.

Main character Per who is a janitor for an apartment building incidentally finds a young naked girl in an empty apartment. She has no language and no normal social skills like eating etc, but he discovers that she is able to work miracles via sexual activity.

The movie from then on is a study of the dark sides of humanity - what can be excused in the name of charity/helpfulness?

Definitely a movie worth watching, thought provoking but also depressing in many ways.

Great actors, poor movie
16 October 2011
I was looking forward to having a couple of hours good laugh, and with the plot and the number of talented actors represented in this movie, how could I not? ...But I didn't. Far from. I don't think that either I, nor the friends watching the movie with me laughed even once. So disappointing.

The lines were tacky, the actors mere shadows of their usual talented selves.

I don't know what went wrong. I went to see the director's previous movie, "Blå Mænd" and found it to be refreshingly funny, but this one is JUST NOT FUNNY. It displays the kind of humor Danish movies were full of in the 60s and 70s, but even then they at least seemed to believe in what they were doing. This is not the case in this movie.

One piece of advice: Save your money for something better!

Dirch - what a story!
21 September 2011
I went to see the Danish movie Dirch last night having heard mixed reviews ahead of my visit.

As the movie passed, it sort of 'grew' into this fascinating insight story about a great but very shy and insecure comedian who lived his life upon the expectations of others. He was simply unable to say 'No'. His insecurity incessantly made him chase the applause of the audience and his surroundings, and his shyness prevented him from gaining the security and support of close relationships.

All this affected his family life, his work, the friendship with his best friend and fellow comedian Kjeld and - not least - the quality of his all too short life.

A strong and sad but also beautiful movie with absolutely amazing performances by most actors but especially Nikolaj Lie Kaas in the role as Dirch!

Serious actor???!
8 January 2001
It was with a bit of excitement that my husband and I took place in front of the television to watch this movie, which had the reputation of being the movie, in which Sylvester Stallone would prove his worth as a serious actor..... We watched for a loooong time, and finally it was over. Mediocre screenplay and definately mediocre acting by a man, who normally gets million dollar fees for his acting in other mediocre action movies. In this movie he is supposed to have decimated his fee for a chance to prove his talent to the world... Too bad Sylvester! You better stick to your normal fees, as this certainly made no difference in our impression of your ... talent ... what so ever...

Why is this movie so extremely popular???
12 July 2000
I have had a very hard time understanding, why this particular very American movie has climbed so high in both the ranking of my fellow imdb.com viewers and of the Oscar committee. Don't misunderstand me - the movie is OK: Good plot, well performing actors, but it can hardly be called star movie material.... Especially seen in comparison with a movie like The Sixth Sense, which I personally found to be the most excellent movie of last year.
