Brilliantly observed

Warning: Spoilers
Both actors establish a complicated tension we have all experienced. I for one remember setting up dates while my flatmate sleeps. The whole crew deserve praise for the timing, lighting and sound. Half naked outside after a failed date. The danger you never knew from that lone knife in the kitchen. That middle class underworld. Perfect.

10 Year Old Macallan, a VW Camper and a touch of Hollywood.
22 January 2013
For when you have made that really big mistake in your life and the only way out seems to be death then watch this movie which tells you all you need is a 10 Year Old Macallan, a VW Camper and a touch of Hollywood (Assisted by Swiss Air and British Airways of course).

I suspect in a post 9/11 world the message here is that Governments should listen to the sensitive advice they are given by the intelligence service and not use them to direct foreign policy.

I didn't realise that Iranian police had black and white sedans but maybe that was the effect of the fine single malt.

Looking back to 'Good Will Hunting (1997) Ben Affleck may well prove to be a better director than actor. This is certainly the direction this movie takes us.

The film of the true story that changed my opinion and perhaps my life
22 September 2009
15 years ago remember watching an MTV TV show that changed my perceptions what was then something that had little known about it. It would almost certainly kill you.

At the end of the last episode in the house a group of young people watch as Pedro exchanging rings with his boyfriend Sean in front of the smiling house members, (voice of Pedro) "Um…. It is a lot easier for me to face my own fears and to face the uncertainty of my own life humm… Knowing that he is there: So I love you.

Text on the screen as broadcast: 'Pedro passed away on November 11th, 1994, the night the last episode of The Real World San Francisco was televised.' 'Since the epidemic began 33 million people worldwide have died from AIDS' I remembered watching this and crying when it was first broadcast.

I cried tonight.

Then I remembering Pedro discovering he is HIV+ and is and is in despair and lost…. He goes to watch Schindler's List on the cinema and he realises it doesn't matter if he dies or not – Only that he stands up and makes a difference.

Pedro isn't the last beautiful person I have met in my life but because of people like him (some of whom I am lucky to call friends) I know more than I did but more importantly…. I think they have made me a better person. (Yes that needs work too).

'Each year 2.5 million people are newly infected'.

Tonight I watched a film of this story and was reminded how one brave young man's struggle changed my mind forever.

I remembered Pedro and smiled.

Self serving twaddle
11 July 2003
Awful, unoriginal, contrived film. Hard to believe Scorsese has anything to do with it. DiCaprio's accent at best annoying. Day-Lewis's performance as the 'Butcher' and the slick glossy filmmaking and special effects its only virtue.

Forgive and Forget (2000 TV Movie)

A minor modern masterpiece
9 December 2001
Don't expect to feel comfortable or be warmed by a Hollywood ending.

Do expect a well-acted fable about the dangers of falling in love with your best friend and how pursuing that love and destroy your friendship. 'How do you tell someone you love them?' 'Just tell them and hope they believe you.' The added closet homosexual existence of one of the friends, and relationship with his family, makes matters more complex.

You are pretty much left to make your own conclusions from the ending. I will be watching this movie again.

Also there are some novel south of the Thames (London) locations.
