I came across this (previously unknown) film while looking for a movie to watch on Amazon Prime... since Halloween is coming up soon.
I love spooky black & white movies, and although I've seen A LOT of them over the years, I guess it's not surprising that this one never presented itself to me. Thanks to "Prime" for including it on their horror movie tier!
Like many of the reviewers before me, I was impressed by the look and "feel" of the film. The visual effects were quite impressive! Certainly not something I've seen in other movies from this era. All the principal players seem to have been very well chosen for their specific role.
Although the opening credit sequence is pretty cool, I thought it odd that it LOOKED more like a TV episode opening! Then when I started reading these reviews, I realized I wasn't just imagining it.
I didn't see any other reviews mentioning this; but I was surprised to see character actress Nellie Burt, playing the role as a housekeeper. Prior to this movie, the only other place I'd seen her, was in an episode of "Bewitched" (circa 1966) --- where she played a ghost hunter!! (complete with a crystal ball). I think that's very ironic!!
Another popular TV actor who has a small appearance at the beginning and the end, is Leonard Stone. I remember him from "Perry Mason"... "Lost in Space"... and the original "Bob Newhart" show.
