Hot Rod (2007)
Impressed... That I managed to sit through the entire movie
First off, to give you some idea of my taste in movies...
2007 Comedies I enjoyed: Superbad, Knocked Up, Hot Fuzz, Blades Of Glory
2007 Comedies I hated: Evan Almighty, The Brothers Solomon, Good Luck Chuck
I should have followed my first instinct and turned off "Hot Rod" after I got to about the 20 minute mark. I knew by that point that this movie would not make me laugh once. The script is absolutely brutal - I have no idea how this monstrosity managed to crack 6 on IMDb. Any one older than 10 years old who enjoyed this must be some kind of mental defective.
This doesn't come close to anything with Will Farrell and it's clear that Andy Samberg can't carry anything longer than a 5 to 10 minute sketch on YouTube or SNL. I don't know how they roped Ian McShane and Isla Fisher into doing this movie... they must have owed favors or something. I came in knowing that it would be a dumb movie, but I thought it would at least be funny. I didn't so much as smirk.
I don't normally comment on movies at IMDb, but this was so awful, I just had to warn people. This is only the 4th movie I've seen that I've felt compelled to rate 1/10.
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
The Beating of Christ
There was nothing passionate about this flick. You would think that a 'moving' film about Jesus Christ would focus on how he lived, but sadly no, The Passion is based entirely on how horrible and gruesome his death was and how the Jews insisted he be killed and how guilty we should all feel about it. I honestly don't think the content qualifies as a 'film.' I only stayed til the end to see how far they would go and it was pretty far. At the end I requested and rightfully received a full refund from the theatre manager. Now if only I could get those hours of my life back...
I was a little disappointed in how the Jews were portrayed, but any intelligent person would realize that if they believe at all in Christianity they would know that Jesus HAD to die and the people involved were just the instruments. Of course any intelligent person wouldn't be a racist, so definitely I can see how this film would encourage anti-semitism.
In conclusion, I was not moved and I was not entertained. The only passion it incited in me was the passion to never again see a movie made by Mel Gibson. 1 out of 10.
Charlie's Angels (2000)
Silly, hokey, but too stupid to ignore
At first glance Charlie's Angels is exactly what you would expect, a silly, hokey, over-the-top, and visually pleasing ride. However I soon realized that there was nothing more to it than that. Gratituous hair-flipping (pert-plus style), a moronic and predictable storyline, and pitiful fight sequences accentuate this sorry excuse for an action movie. The story trods along with so many plot holes that I could not just sit back and enjoy this popcorn flick. Saturday morning cartoon writers put more thought into their work than whoever wrote the script as even small children would question the validity of what takes place during this snooze fest. Cameron Diaz's jiggling butt, whicht seems to have a life of its own, and a good performance by Bill Murray are the only things that kept me awake for the duration. Top that off with an average at best villain and you've got the perfect summer movie...for the mentally-challenged.
