A movie for men, Seagal's best
27 January 2002
Out For Justice is by far the most brutal movie I have ever seen and I have seen most of the so-called very violent movies. I really like the brutal violence in the movie. Steven Seagal takes no prisoners and neither does his opponent. William Forsythe is great as the bad guy who is on way too much dope. The appeal of the movie is the fact Seagal really cuts loose here. People that got a big mouth get their butts kicked and that's the way it should be. Respect is the name of the game and Seagal wants to make sure he gets it. If you don't like this movie then you should never watch an action movie again, because you don't know what the word action means. People always find something to complain about when a Seagal movie is released. Well, he doesn't make movies for rocket scientists, people. His movies are about action, not story, so if you expect a story please go watch something else and give Seagal a break. Seagal has made some bad movies but he also made a few good movies but all of his movies get the same venom spewing treatment. Those people that complain about his movies all the time are very very sad people. This movie is a 10. It's pure entertainment.

Visually stunning and Mark Dacascos
30 December 2001
The reason I wanted to see this movie was Mark Dacascos. If you don't know Mark Dacascos, well, in my eyes he is in the same class as Jackie Chan and Jet Li with the difference that he never gets a break. He made the movie Drive which is the best martial arts movie around, but the movie never got released in the cinemas which is a total crime. Drive was a few years earlier than the Matrix and Rush Hour and blows both of those movies away. I hope Brotherhood Of The Wolf gives Dacascos the break he needs. Brotherhood Of The Wolf is a visually stunning movie with great scenery, great action scenes, suspense and atmosphere. Monica Bellucci is also very easy on the eyes. The movie is about the Beast of Gevaudan which is a French myth. The Beast Of Gévaudan prowled the Auvergne and South Dordogne areas of France during the years 1764 to 1767, killing about 100 people, often in bizarre circumstances. Samuel Le Bihan and Mark Dacascos are sent to investigate the case. Marc Dacascos plays an Indian and totally steals the show. He is by far the coolest Indian in the history of cinema. Although the action scenes are good it's too bad that Steve Wang and The Alpha Stunt Team (from Drive fame) didn't direct the scenes. It's a crime that Steve Wang and the Alpha Stunt Team never got the chance to direct another movie after they directed Drive. A total crime, that's what it is. I really hope Brotherhood Of The Wolf will be a success all over the world so that Marc Dacascos finally deserves the fame that he should have gotten years ago. And the director of Brotherhood Of The Wolf should get a pat on the back for choosing Dacascos. Brotherhood Of The Wolf deserves all the accolades it gets. It's a different kind of movie but entertaining nonetheless. And it sure deserves an Oscar for the camera work. There was some breathtaking scenery filmed.

Vigilante (1982)
Underrated movie
7 December 2001
The average rating for this movie is way too low. I guess people don't like violent movies that much. This movie has some violent scenes, that's true but it's so much more than that. Fred Williamson's speech at the beginning of the movie hits straight home. I hardly see this movie on television. I think it's because people are afraid that many people could be influenced by it, since society is growing darker and darker every day. What Fred Williamson and company do in this movie is what a lot of people would like to do but can't because the law doesn't allow it. The way I see it this movie is really great. The bad guys deserve what they get and that's what makes this movie so great.

City Hunter (1993)
Silly and very funny
31 October 2001
This is one funny movie based on the Japanese manga comic City Hunter. I wouldn't call it a comedy, but it sure has been chuckle-mania to me. Some things about this movie really stand out. First of all, the colors are very bright in this movie, very lively. Second of all, Jackie Chan has the Ryu Saebu part down well enough. Third of all, the humor is really great. Fourth of all, there is lots of babes in it, just like in the comic version. Fifth of all, there is some good fighting scenes in it. Jackie Chan always manages to hire actors that never get a break and he brings out the best in them. In this case I am talking about Richard Norton and Gary Daniels. I wonder what they could do if someone would give them a good script, a real script. I recommend this movie to everyone. It's funnier than most of the crap Hollywood produces. If a Jackie Chan movie is not your cup of tea I think you should give Jackie a break. He is one of a kind and deserves better. AND, if you are a Street Fighter fan you definitely have to check out this movie. It contains a Street Fighter scene that is way better than the Street Figher movie with Van Damme. And no knocking on Van Damme because I think he is great, but just got a lousy script for Street Fighter. City Hunter is the bomb. Definitely not your everyday kind of movie. And if you don't like this movie go buy a sense of humor because you sure miss that.

Very underrated
31 October 2001
I saw this movie a looooooooooooong time ago. At that time I didn't like it. But I decided to try it again to see whether I like it better now. I think that when you re-watch a movie after a few years the possibility is there that you will like it even more or hate it even more. The more movies you watch the more you broaden your horizon and the more your opinion on movies changes. Well, after re-watching this movie my conclusion was "Oh my god, this is great stuff". And it is. It's very 80ies and has a lot of suspense. You are into it very fast and then it's a long ride till the end. Just awesome.

Captain Future (1978–1979)
I am glad I know German even though I am not a German
30 July 2001
Recently someone lent me his collection of Captain Future tapes. Ever since I saw Phil Fuldner's clip I thought "I want to see that anime". The version I saw was the German version. A lot of countries seem to have their own soundtrack and dubbing for the anime. As far as I am concerned Captain Future is the best anime I have ever seen. For sure it's the best science fiction anime. What makes this anime so great is the solid story telling along with the great soundtrack. The soundtrack really adds a special feel to the anime and to the action scenes. It's a timeless soundtrack. And the Captain Future crew is a really special team. Every character is likable. There is a lot of stuff people call cult, but this anime is the real deal. Cult can't come any closer than this. If you ever get the chance to see it watch the German version. And if you don't know German then get off your lazy behind, leave your computer and start learning it to feel the Captain Future experience. This anime series screams for a DVD release. And with the technology of today the DVD's could be really special containing all the languages and all the soundtracks. It would be a dream come true for every Captain Future fan.

Still stands like a brick wall
29 July 2001
Born Invincible was the first martial arts film I have ever seen. It has been 16 years ago since I saw it. When I was browsing a DVD sellpoint I noticed they had Born Invincible on DVD. Needless to say that I immediately ordered it because I was curious to see whether it's still good. And yes, it's still that good. The dubbing of the movie is very bad if I look at it realistically but it is very funny. Carter Hwang and his bad guy partner in crime really have ridiculous voices that don't fit with the persons they are portraying. Very cool. The action in the movie is really great. Carter Hwang is really good as the bad guy. He kicks some serious you know what. Sometimes I wonder whether the makers of Terminator looked at Carter Hwang because Carter Hwang really reminds me of the Terminator in the sense that he is nearly unstoppable. If you want a classic Hong Kong movie with great action then Born Invincible is the movie for you. As far as I am concerned the movie stands out among a lot of Hong Kong movies released between 1974 and 1984.

American Gothic (1995–1998)
This is pure cult
19 June 2001
There is no justice in the world. I saw American Gothic years ago and was very impressed with it. I was so impressed with it that I taped all the episodes. I was very disappointed when I heard that this series was cancelled after one season. How come so many people missed this great series ? Or were they appalled by some characters in the series ? I really don't know. As happens lots of times crap keeps existing (f.e. Buffy) but really great legendary stuff like American Gothic gets axed after one season. It's just not fair.

American Gothic is about a small town called Trinity in which sheriff Lucas Buck upholds (or breaks) the law in his own special kind of way. Nothing special you would think. But......... Lucas Buck isn't human. What he is we really don't know but he sure looks like the Devil incarnate and he has some special powers to boot. You are either with him or against him, but it's better to be with him. He is probably the best bad guy I have ever seen in any kind of tv series. The series has this mysterious eerie kind of feeling and that's also an factor that makes this series so great.

If you have never seen this series and it is rerun on some channel grab your chance. I don't think you will regret it.

As for the moneygrabbing dvd producers: RELEASE THIS SERIES AS A COMPLETE SEASON SET. IT DESERVES A DVD RELEASE. Because I know for sure there is a core fan following out there that would pick up an American Gothic dvd release just like that. So what are you producers waiting for ?

G.I. Joe: The Movie (1987 Video)
I miss these kind of cartoons
19 June 2001
I can't say enough times that I love the eighties for their great cartoons and great movies. The creativity during that time was awesome. As far as I am concerned 2 cartoons really stuck out in the eighties, namely GI Joe and The Transformers with Transformers being my personal favorite. For years I have been waiting for a return of those 2 cartoons to television. Their return would bring some class to the crap that now exists on television, like X-Men, Spiderman, Power Rangers, VR Troopers... The list goes on and on. What makes GI Joe and Transformers so great is the great storylines along with the absence of a Disney mode. Anyway, I read that a dvd of GI Joe The Movie existed so I forked over my cash to buy it right away and boy was it great to relive some memories. It was pretty good, although I didn't like Globulus and his crew. GI Joe was always about the battle against Cobra, not some mutated freaks. The whole GI Joe cartoon series screams DVD release (as long as they aren't sold for rip-off prices, like for example happens with the Battle Of The Planets cartoon or animes). As far as I am concerned GI Joe and the Transformers are the standard for cartoons. If you have never heard of GI Joe The Movie then check it out, but if you are a fan "What are you waiting for ?". Go rent it or buy it and enjoy the antics of Duke, Flint, Hawk, Beach Head, Sgt Slaughter and the rest of the gang. Quote of the movie: 'We're all going home or nobody goes home"

The Lost Boys (1987)
The standard in vampire movies
29 December 2000
The eighties really had the coolest movies. Well, what can I say about this movie ? In my opinion this movie set the standard for vampire movies. I haven't seen a better one yet. There are a lot of pretenders to the throne and that's what they are : pretenders. This movie has the word "CULT" written all over it. The atmosphere is kind of light-dark. Kiefer Sutherland plays his best role ever. The humor is pretty good. The Frog brothers, those guys are rich. And one thing is for sure, after seeing this movie I am never gonna eat noodles again. If you want to see a real vampire movie this is the one. And that's the bottom line.

One of those gems
28 October 2000
The first time I saw Trick Or Treat was about 10 years ago. The movie really impressed me with its subject. It deserves the title cult classic. I never was able to obtain an original of the film. With the DVD trying to break through I had already been looking for the DVD version but according to most shops and even amazon the DVD didn't exist. Imagine my surprise when I had a vacation in Amsterdam I saw the DVD in the Megastore there. It wasn't cheap but I still bought it. There was no way I would miss that chance. I don't regret it. First, because it still can't be ordered at Amazon or any other shop I know and second because it's a great movie. The atmosphere in Trick Or Treat is great. It's not a Hollywood kind of style movie, but the story is better than most of the Hollywood stuff. The special effects aren't bad either. The soundtrack is unmistakenly 80ies metal which I really like. The cameo by Ozzy Osbourne is hilarious. Like I said before it's a cult classic. Not everybody will like it but should try it. I am glad somebody decided that this cult classic should be released. Now if they would release cult classics like The Warriors, The Last Dragon, The Wraith and Three O'Clock High on DVD I would be one happy camper.

The Warriors (1979)
Simply the best
28 October 2000
The Warriors is the best movie I have ever seen. There just isn't a better movie around. The movie is about the gang The Warriors that visits this big meeting of gangs organized by the leader of the biggest gang in New York. The leader of that gang gets killed and the Warriors are blamed for it. The Warriors have to try to make it all the way back home. The trouble is that the truce between gangs that existed during the big meeting doesn't count any more. A lot of things in this movie captivate me. The dark atmosphere, the different kinds of gangs (Baseball Furies looking the coolest) , The Warriors, the fights, some cool oneliners and the absolutely astonishing soundtrack. All those things together make it a must see movie. When is it gonna get released on DVD ? It's about time. It's unbelievable that a lot of crap gets released on DVD but this classic doesn't. If you get the chance rent it, you won't regret it.

X-Men (2000)
Pass
10 September 2000
Whenever I hear there that a comic is made into a movie I start to cringe. As a comic fan I have seen a lot of blasphemy. Crying Freeman is the only comic movie that stayed true to the comic. All the other comic movies always have a story differing from the comic. That bothers me but sometimes some comic movies get of the hook. The Punisher and Blade didn't follow the comic but they were good. X-Men surprised me a lot though. The effects were great. There was not a lot of action but somehow the story of Rogue and Wolverine captivated me more, although I think Rogue should have been Kitty or Jubilee. Hugh Jackman is megacool as Wolverine, something that I didn't expect at all. Hugh reminded me of Clint Eastwood though. Don't know why. Maybe his facial expressions or his hair are the reason. I really liked the movie it surprised me. If you like science fiction or comics X-Men is the movie for you. There were 2 negative points though. Mystique looked worse than the Mystique in comics and Cyclops was really a wimp, unlike in the comic where he is a real leader and a likeable character.

Drive (1997)
This is the real deal
12 August 2000
Drive is the best-kept secret when it comes down to martial arts movies. To tell you the truth when this video came out I didn't rent it but a friend knowing that I like Jackie Chan movies said I should watch Drive because the action was as good as or even better than the action in Jackie Chan movies. Well, I am glad I saw the movie because it was awesome. Marc Dacascos showed me martial arts action I never saw from him before. Director Steven Wang, how come I never heard of him before ? Steven and Marc really made a movie that was poetry in motion. Add the humor, Walter The Einstein Frog, Kareem Hardison and those 2 bounty hunters and you got yourself a movie that will make you glad you saw it. Too bad it was never released in the theatres because then Marc Dacascos would have broken through and been world famous. Whoever decided not to release Drive in the theatres should be fired right away.As far as I am concerned Drive is the best martial arts movie I have seen. I hope Steven Wang and Dacascos make another martial arts action movie in the future. This movie is a big 10.

School fun at its best
12 August 2000
This movie is a gem. I saw this movie years later after its release and I was ashamed to see that I missed this brilliant movie when it came out. The story is about a guy called Jerry Mitchell being challenged to a fight by a dangerous dude called Buddy Revell at three o'clock. If Jerry tries to split Buddy will track him down. Jerry still tries to avoid the fight. The whole movie is absolutely wonderfully directed. Buddy Revell is really portrayed as a monster and it is absolutely funny to see how afraid people are of him when he is in the neighborhood. The fear that the persons have is so well directed. The fear of Jerry is also hilarious. The humor is also good. If you like school comedies you will like this movie. Highly recommend. A big 10.
