All the Pretty Horses (2000)
Leaves you with a sense of sadness but a beautiful piece of work
Matt Damon has done it again. He manages to give another amazing performance as he always does , he is without a doubt the best actor of his generation. It's the story of John Grady Cole leaving post WW2 Texas looking for a better life in Mexico and finding the love of his life but paying a massive price for being with her. As the story goes on it becomes more interesting what happens to John Grady Cole and his friend but in the end it left with me a real sense of sadness but in a good way, it just seemed like a fitting ending for all that had happened to him. Also a really well done soundtrack provided by Marty Stuart.
The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000)
Damon and Redford make a great Team
The Legend of Bagger Vance is what the movies of 2000 should have tried to be like. With the exception of a few movies (Requiem for a Dream , Cast Away,Wonder Boys) the year for cinema was pretty weak. This one is just great movie all the way. The story of a man who was great golfer who left the game and has become scarred emotional from a war he felt obligated to fight in has returned home to find out he is not the same person he used to be. Matt Damon gives another amazing performance. He plays Rannulph Junuh the man trying to find himself again. 2 amazing surprises were the performances of Charlize Theron and Will Smith , 2 actors who have been in movies which have been money makers but which lacked critical praise.
The way Redford uses golf as a metaphor for life is amazing. And as we watch Bagger not only try to help Junuh become the golfer he used to be , but trying to help find the person he used to be. It isn't until later on that we find out what Bagger truly is.
One of the most under looked movies of the year. 8/10 Stars
Gossip (2000)
Fun Way to Spend 90 Minutes
When i first heard that Gossip was being released i thought it was going to be another "Wack" Teen Murder Flick. I was surprised to find out it wasn't. Although the story line was weak and a lot of the events that transpire are somewhat predictable it was just plain out fun to watch. James Marsden is without a doubt the highlight of the film and its cool watching him lie and manouver to try and get out of every bad situation. I was a fan of the ending and the music throughout rocks especially Tonic's "Mean to Me" at the end credits. So if your looking to kill an hour and a half, check it out.
