Lucky (2017)
A profound experience
I saw this film by chance & this was a happy coincidence - I mean to see it with open eyes & mind. The story is so simple & deeply touching as truth & life are. A very humane hero- the last role of Harry Dean Stanton - together with an extraordinary company of other characters are giving a very profound performance dealing with so delicate matters as fear of death life, friendship & existence with a smile.
So glad I did not miss it, I will see it again & again just like reading Tolstoy again & again.
Hadaka no shima (1960)
A masterpiece & so simple !!
I had not seen The Naked Island till today & I feel that I found a magnificent jewel in a long forgotten closet. Director Kaneto Shindo made an almost silent black & white film depicting the unbelievable struggle of a family of four living on their small arid island. This is a work of absolute beauty & simplicity. I read that the film is dedicated to his parents. The funny thing is that the production company was in an almost critical economic situation when the film was made, and the film's unexpected(?)financial success saved the company. The mother of the family was Kaneto Shindo's wife. The cinematographer Kiyomi Kuroda has cooperated with Kaneto Shindo in several films. My rate of 10 does not mean much I wish I could give it a higher rate
Aleksandr Nevskiy (1938)
A masterpiece by a master of film-making
A must for all those who believe that a film is not just a two hour entertainment, still the film is really entertaining. And the music! A masterpiece, the score is also available in the form of a cantata.
One of my favorite classics.
