Taking a break - weather too beautiful and too much going on to keep up with TV or boards. Will peek in now & then to do some reading though.
...happy Summering!
May 2014
Recently found my writing 'voice' so can actually participate after 13 years of just reading. Have enjoyed being a regular follower of a few boards...but am always self-conscious when expressing myself in writing. (30 years of financial reporting does not a poet make.)
Looking forward to participating. I've been dipping my foot in the water so far...
Reviews
Don't Worry Darling (2022)
Wanted to like this but ...
This review could've had a pity-2 star rating, but it wasn't that good. Florence Pugh as always deserves at least a 9 but the plot, screenplay and editing let her down. Harry Styles obviously slept with someone to capture the role (wink wink), he was that unconvincing. Olivia Wilde was good in her acting role but disappointing as the director. (Surprising since "Booksmart" was excellent. Beginner's luck?
I won't spoil things by listing the (better) movies this is indebted to, but be prepared for a predictable twist and clunky, unsatisfying resolution.
Oh, and this is not a review "bomb" just because someone doesn't agree with its deserved low ratings. Arrogant shills giving 10's for its perceived "importance" aren't doing potential viewers a favor. I'm a retired professional woman, 2nd wave feminist and I really, really didn't enjoy this movie. (Except Florence Pugh!)
Loki (2021)
Great story, great acting, great fun
The Loki of the first Avengers movie was being mind controlled by Thanos while still being enraged at Odin and Thor. This is the Loki we're now following in a new timeline. He hasn't gone through imprisonment, the death of both parents or his reconciliation with Thor in Ragnorak. This makes his gradual reformation in "Loki" easy to understand without Thanos in his head, especially after witnessing the "rest of his life" and death. Tom Hiddleston did a superb job bringing back early Loki of Thor 1, the God of Mischief, jealous of Thor, desperate for Odin's approval. The quality of the actors and their commitment to their characters is far above what we get from most TV and streaming series.
Didn't know what to expect - love what I'm seeing. Less than 36 hours until the final episode... I'll be on pins and needles until then!
Father Brown: The Grim Reaper (2014)
Not a review, correcting someone's incorrect "Goof".
Teased hair was very much in before the 80's. My neighbor was a part time hair dresser in the mid 60's and her hair and her customers' hair was often teased up into "beehive" and like styles. Check out any Annette Funicello beach party movie!
