Eileen (2023)
What happened?
Shea is good in everything he does. All the main players gave some nice performances. BUT, WTF happened??
We have all this build up to an ending that makes ZERO sense? Did she shoot her on purpose? Do we know. Did her friend Rebecca make her do it? Was it planned? All the build up in the first 90% of the movie, then it fell flat on its' face at the very end then the credits rolled.
Really a terrible ending. Something just off about the whole movie. Felt uncomfortable, out of joint, etc. Maybe on purpose. So much went into the first 90%, then it died on the vine. Absolutely no idea what happened.
The Power of the Dog (2021)
Why?
Why oh why would the director leave out the entire historical reason that Peter kills Phil with the poisoned hides?? I just learned that reason today, reading these reviews. I watched the movie for the second time last night and finally caught the subtle scene where Peter cuts the hide from the poisoned cow then makes sure Phil uses it to make whatever it is he was making. +
In the context of the movie, without the history of why, the murder makes absolutely no sense. Very, very odd.
Why not leave the hurricane out of Wizard of Oz? Leave the Civil War out of Gone With the Wind?
Made absolutely no sense.
Dirty John: No Fault (2020)
Let's be realistic with the casting please
TV does this all too often. I've seen the Broderick story on true crime shows over the years. Let's face an unfortunate truth. Men are visual. If their wife gets unattractive, he loses interest. 90% of the time.
I look more like Amanda Peet than Betty Broderick did and I'm a 6'2" 275 pound man. It's hard to draw the same sympathy for a beautiful woman than it is for a frumpy old has been wife.
The fact of the matter is that Betty got super unattractive as she aged. Dan lost interest and found a younger model. It happens. Sad? Of course. But, it's the way of the world. I'm not saying he didn't get what he deserves, same for the replacement blonde.
Money changes people, certainly men.
Series was good, but I just kept having such a hard time reconciling why they didn't use a woman on the same level of unattractiveness as the real Betty.
The Volcano: Rescue from Whakaari (2022)
Fault
Well, this is sort of like skydiving. If your parachute doesn't open, I don't have any sympathy for you? Right? It's an active volcano. It erupted 6 years ago, then 3 years ago. This was the end of another 3 years. It's going to erupt. Soon. Sorry, but as tragic as this is, don't go near an active volcano. They are deadly.
Why not tour a jungle full of hungry lions? Because they might kill you. Why not swim with alligators? Because they might kill you.
For the cruise line, the local government, the tour company (making money) to even allow this is beyond comprehension.
So many at fault, including the tourists.
A Wilderness of Error (2020)
A lot of coincidences. . .
So, at the VERY end, they put a note up on the screen essentially saying the DNA convicts him. BUT, how do we explain the following:
1) he says "floppy hat and boots" and there turns out to be a girl with a floppy hat and boots in the area, then she confesses to being there many, many times.
2) the phone call that she says she picked up. No call log? Someone says they did call and a woman answered. How do you explain it?
3) Motive? What is it? He got mad and killed his entire family? Man, that's tough to swallow.
4) SO many people saying that this Helena admitted to being there.
5) Helena's mom's affidavit saying she did it?
Way too many unanswered questions. BUT, if the DNA points to him, I guess that's it.
Things Heard & Seen (2021)
A hole lot of nothing.
This had potential. Unless I am VERY wrong, the entire reason that the female ghost is in the house is to protect the soon to be dead wife. BUT THEN SHE LETS HER GET HACKED TO DEATH WITH AN AXE???
At one point it is said there is a "good" spirit and a "bad" one. Did they ever reveal who the bad spirit was if the woman was the good spirit?
Very confusing. This fraud husband goes on a killing spree to save his reputation?
Amanda was good. I truly didn't believe it was her that got hacked up. I swore the ghost was going to save her and tear up the husband.
Seahorn.(sp?) was great, really liked her in Better Call Saul.
The Vanishing (2018)
Not bad, but . . .
So, as is usual for a movie, the "based on a true story" is really a stretch. A few holes:
1) A seemingly dead guy that survived his boat capsizing and being destroyed by the rocks, sleeping in the water overnight, suddenly awakes to attack the kid sent to help him? Come on now.
2) Why did the guy take the gold in the row boat? Do we think the guys in the power boat would not have caught up with him? Come on now.
3) This story couldn't be farther from the "actual truth" of what the mystery was in 1900. First off, one of them (James) survives.
4) They turn what was supposed to be a century long mystery and turned it into an easily understood and solved case.
The list goes on. Not bad to kill 90 minutes, but don't watch for its historical value.
The Curse of Von Dutch (2021)
Not too bad. I guess.
Never heard of Von Dutch, or really any of the people associated with it. I think this is based off an old Nursery Rhyme, called "Three Blind Mice."
Geezus, could these people be any worse and running a business? If not for the Tonny's wife's money, this would have died a much quicker death. But he walked into a situation made up of drug addict idiots.
Funny to watch. The pony tailed a-hole that liked to beat friends up should have been put down a lot earlier in the show. And in life.
The Most Dangerous Animal of All (2020)
Once you go down the rabbit hole. . .
I feel hoodwinked by this one. It's the last 15 minutes where we find out that the 3 hours that went before was all smoke and mirrors.
I will say that I have experienced a "similar" thing years ago. I'm a bit of a gum shoe and get some enjoyment out of trying to solve a mystery.
Years ago I was at a party and a buddy of mine came up to me and pointed out this guy that was dating his sister. He swore to me that this guy told his sister that he was, in fact, Bryan Brown (Cocktail and other movies). The second he told me that, your brain starts to formulate all these different potential scenarios. You start to think, "yea, he looks like him." LOL.
Long story short. I got obsessed with finding out if it could be true. I never really got an answer, but I thought the guy was telling a lie. But, I don't really know. To this day I wonder.
Once your mind sets a course, it's almost impossible to change it.
This Is a Robbery: The World's Biggest Art Heist (2021)
So many unexplained issues. . .
OK, are you telling me that in 1990 there was no such thing as exterior cameras? You have this building with hundreds of millions of dollars of artwork inside, and you don't have any working cameras all over the outside of the building???
Unanswered:
1) Seems so obvious to me this HAD to be an inside job at some level. They NEVER go into any detail as to how they cleared the guard wrapped up in that ridiculous duct tape, smiling by the way. The FBI agent just says, he didn't do it.
2) Only a complete moron would open the doors even for a cop without calling the police department first. Are you telling me this isn't Standard Operating Procedure? Someone acts like a cop? Call the frigging station to verify. Dumb.
3) Did these "guards" have no guns? Seems to me that the management of the museum did a horrible job hiring qualified guards. Sounded like they were local lackey/pot heads that just came in to get paid and do nothing. This is management's fault.
4) The robbers spent 81 minutes inside the museum with NO fear that they would get caught. How do you think this is possible? Inside job. They knew the museum, so likely former employees. Was that followed up? Never discussed in documentary.
This could have been SUPER interesting, but they wasted time talking about the gangster wanna bes, rather than describing how the cleared the guards, how they interrogated any other suspects, what the alibis were of former employees, etc.
Closed for Storm (2020)
Why?
Who invests millions of dollars in an area guaranteed to be knocked down by hurricanes and floods eventually? The entire premise of building up that area was financially flawed, I'm not surprised it's still empty.
Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not in 10 years, but a hurricane WILL eventually kill it.
The Rachel Divide (2018)
Interesting and sad.
I went between laughing at her and feeling sorry for her. She's clearly got some emotional issues that need to be addressed at a professional level.
At the end of the day, especially in this day and age when people don't even know what gender they are and what bathroom they should use, who cares that she wants to be close to the black culture? Her problem isn't her mental issues, it's that she lied about it for so long and so publicly, nobody will sympathize now.
If she had just been truthful from the beginning, this documentary would have never been made.
I do find it very odd though that EVERYTHING she does is black. Black adoptions, black friends, etc. Must be what the Kardashians girls have? Not sure.
The Guilty (2021)
You never get the sizzle you think is coming.
Jake is a great actor, sure. But, when it's difficult to hear anybody on the phone (the entire reason for the movie), it makes it impossible to understand what's going on.
Sorry, didn't do it for me.
And Just Like That... (2021)
Woke in the City - Shame on you.
Well, reading the reviews, I'm happy to see I'm not the only one that noticed the woke trans, gay, lesbian lesson in each episode. PUKE.
Not going to waste much time reviewing this trash. The loudmouth butch or whatever it is and all of the lessons of how wonderful it is to be gender confused is just too much for me.
We are doomed.
The Unforgivable (2021)
Undecided. . .
Admittedly, I tried twice to watch but fell asleep both times about an hour in.
I'm confused by some of the reviews. Some say Ruth is the cop killer, others say a 5 year old did the killing? Which is it? If the 5 y/o, why would an adult take that wrap when there would have been nothing done to a 5 y/o.
Seems oddly stupid.
Gossip (2021)
An Ode to a terrible human being.
I realize this Cindy person has been around for years. Sycophants think she's some kind of "legend" because she wrote a gossip column. Tough work it is talking smack about people you don't know.
What shines through in this documentary is how self-absorbed, self-important and narcissistic this old broad is/was.
I could writ for hours about what kind of person she "seems" to be, and likely is. But. . .
The REAL issue? Is that this Cretan and others like her, have somehow made people think that what she does is important, entertaining, necessary. I'm ashamed for those that read and promote that garbage. Fun for the feeble minded.
She got super rich doing this while millions of people that work 1,000 harder doing work that is 1,000 more important can barely pay their rent.
Shame.
Dexter: New Blood: Too Many Tuna Sandwiches (2021)
It just ain't that good....
I was a HUGE fan of the original Dexter. The last season or two got a little weird, but I hung in there to the end.
I'm shocked to see all the high review numbers for this "New Blood" trash. Sorry, no matter how you slice it, this is just not good. Whenever you "re-do" something, you have to compete with the original, and this isn't even getting close.
It was a HUGE suspension of disbelief to allow for all of the times the original Dexter got away with stuff, got his famous drug, had a huge forensic lab at his disposal, had all the money in the world. I just ain't buying it now that he's in the middle of WhoVille.
Much like the disaster Soprano's movie, they should have left well enough alone.
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
Should have left it alone
The original was one of my favorite shows. This one is a total dud. Completely different feel. So easy to see it's a knockoff of something once great. Sorry, but I just don't get all the "great" reviews. Obviously done by people who are in love with the actor (that they never met.)
Just not even close to the original. Do yourself a favor and watch a tray of ice freeze instead.
