Duranga (2022)
Fantastic Performances
Having watched both seasons of Duranga, I must say that it is extremely interesting, very watchable, and borderline addictive. The plot and more importantly, the very well chalked out characters, will make the viewer experience a kaleidoscope of emotions.
Pros:- 1. Earnest and committed performances by the 02 main leads, Drashti Dhami and Gulshan Devaiah. The more emotional viewers will really appreciate their chemistry and interactions.
2. A deliciously evil performance by Amit Sadh in Season 2. The guy is borderline maniacal at times, in a good way. Also, Zakir Hossain will make your spine tingle, again in a good way.
3. The direction is brilliant in both seasons and each episode will leave you yearning for the next one, including the last episode of Season 2. The series is a proper binge-watch and might cost you at-least a night's sleep.
Cons: Not many cons that I noticed or can think of, to be fair.
End of the day, if anyone from the directorial team ever reads any of this, I just have two things to say :
1. Congratulations on making a brilliant show with brilliant leads.
2. I need Season 3 NOW please.
Human (2022)
To describe it in one word - Jarring
Human is not necessarily the best web-series that I have watched. But, it is a jarring watch. The visuals and dialogue (sometimes, the lack thereof!) will stir up some fairly strong emotions within you.
Also, to nobody's surprise, Shefali Shah is once again an absolute phenomenon. Her facial expressions, dialogue delivery, and mannerisms were an absolute delight. She is probably the only reason to rewatch or bingewatch this series.
Thappad (2020)
A Superb Film.
I just watched 'Thappad' on the date of it's release and must say, I was blown away. The acting, the direction, the subtlety with which this eventually hard hitting film has been made is mindblowing. I cannot say enough good things about Taapsee Pannu. She is a sensational actress. The way she portrays happiness and melancholy is a sight to behold. As a viewer, I felt happy when Amrita was happy and I felt her sadness when she was struggling. In the end, the film gave a very important message too. without the stereotypical Bollywood-ish happy ending. As a male in a theater which was incidentally dominated by females, I was privileged to watch the movie which at first glance might seem to be geared primarily towards females but is actually geared towards our society in general.
Maj Rati Keteki (2017)
Superlative.
One of the best regional films you are ever likely to see. Scratch that. One of THE BEST films you are ever likely to see, period. Adil Hussain was, as always, superb. He is truly one of, if not THE finest actor in India. Young Bhola was superb as well.
The direction, the screenplay and everything in between was truly perfect. A fantastic film.
Anjaan: Special Crimes Unit (2018)
Beautifully Engaging Characters.
Watch this, if not for the storyline or the episodes or the horror, but most definitely for the two lead characters, Vikrant and Aditi. The chemistry between them is so natural, so comfortable and you will really find yourself rooting for these 2. Fantastic performance by Gashmeer Mahajani, a hidden gem of an actor, and Heena Parmar, who after a shaky first few episodes really comes into the groove. We need another season of this.
Delhi Crime (2019)
Terrific Performances throughout
Shefali Shah - Take a Bow, madam. Wow!
A true classic delivered to us by Netflix. Gritty, gripping, dark but interspersed with dry humor at just the right times, and some incredible performances from the cast.
Shefali Shah as DCP Varthika Chaturvedi was awe-inspiring. Probably the finest actress in India at the moment. She transitioned seamlessly between the iron-willed, strong DCP South and a vulnerable mother merely wanting to keep her daughter close. She is, without a doubt in my mind, the finest actress in India. Adil Hossain as CP Vijay Kumar was poise and calmness personified, as he delivered a controlled yet flawless performance. Rajesh Tailang, as Inspector Bhupender Singh, was appropriately gritty, determined and again, flawless.
I could go on and on about this. If you haven't watched this, what are you waiting for? This is the among the finest pieces of work available today and you will be missing out on some truly memorable performances from some of the best actors in our country.
