Survival of the Thickest (2023)
Nice but..
So the acting is good, they strive from one episode to the other. I like that they include diversity in a not obnoxious way. Also quite funny and enjoyable.
The reason I gave a 6 is because it's just realistically not that easy to find someone after so many years of dating and at that age. You are devastated emotionally and the dating pool is not that great.
I wanted to see more of her struggle and how she resolves or gets past her own issues. How she actually evolves. She was a hustler from the beginning. She had already a strong persona. I wanted more than switch to a new stable man.
Rather than that, I recommend it.
And Just Like That... (2021)
Just like that i want to be relevant in 2020/21
From an European perspective
They try really hard and badly to keep it relevant in the currently times of American society. They try and include movements metoo, gender fluidity, Black Lives Matter and more progressive/ wile ideas...but in a poorly manner.
My first red flag is how they treated Kim C. Refusal to do this show. They made her the bad guy, way better if she were dead. The way they presented her is so out of character... but she's not the only one.
Miranda and Steve's relationship is far from how they ended the Sex and the city series. They make Steve this unloving, boring and dull character and Miranda very clumsy and dumb. And I don't want to spoil her sexuality orientation too much, but they tried this previously and it was a clear no.
Too less scenes of Carrie and Mr Big.. we waited the whole Sex and the city for them to be together and now... also she can't call 911? What happened?
Charlotte still tries too much...
Everything is either too much, too poorly or unneeded.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
The ending I wanted
So one might say that the story focusses too much on some characters, even tho it is the story of all avengers. I never minded that, because it is hard to portrait a movie of so many characters and still make it good.
I loved the fact that focusing on some characters so many details about thei story, their perspective and their nature are revealed. You can emphatizise and really see their evolution theought their entire series. My mind was changed about some avengers because of this one movie.
Besides this, there are many other good stuff like cgi, good fighting scenes, the genuine interaction between characters and well, the perfect ending. Yes, it was. It was what they needed (them, the characters) to be at peaced with themselves.
But let's talk about why I rated 8 and not 10. So, firstly, one big point and a half is lost because it had a really feminist scene. I did not see the role of Captain Marvel which in her own debut film was portrayed as a badass, MVP of the Marvel universe. The avengers were great without her. But the cherry on top was this one scene that made me leave the room (which I did not). It was by far not nevessary and essential to the plot, and was only added because American's political state. Sorry guys, Europe doesn't buy it.
The last half of point is lost because of Thor. His side of the story could have been great but ended up as something silly. Thor is great because he cares about his peers (and abs). Based on these traits, they kinda made too much fun of him. Really, why? We all know that marvel adds a little bit of funny characters and lines to appeal to the younger audience, which is not bad, but they kinda went too far because it kinda was focussed only on him.
Before I press submit, let me tell you about the ending. I don't want to spoil it, but I will say this: it will surprise you 😊 the end of an era and the start of a new one.
