Wheelman (2017)
Frank Grillo continues to not disappoint!
This a hidden gem on Netflix. Frank Grillo is awesome and makes his character believable. I'm a fan of the setting being taken in one location ( mainly in the getaway car and Porsche). Film is set up for anxiety after about 10 mins into the film.
Love the fact that they don't drag out the film and it gets straight to the point. The no name characters are a cool factor as well.
Definitely worth a watch when you have some down time for looking for a short film thriller.
Yes the backstory of the "wheelman" is a little dry, but if you can get past that it's definitely a good film to on watch!
The Tax Collector (2020)
Trailer makes it Clickbait!
After seeing the trailer earlier this year, this seems like it had high hopes and expectations...
Unfortunately it's a huge let down with lots of gaps of story lines and character backgrounds. Shia LaBeouf is what sells the reason to even wanna see it and it sells. Most the characters you see are small times thugs you see in gangster movies who got lead roles in this film. It's a flop and i really tried to give it a chance. David's character is super soft in this film and this isn't some "John wick" movie most people thought when i read early reviews.
Midsommar (2019)
What happens when you don't respect psychedelics. Lol
Do not watch this without being open minded. Not a film for the cynical person!
Definitely respect the film and how this culture has its own way of morals and values. What outsiders see as "crazy" or unethical, the cult finds as peace and values. Dani suffers a lot from the start of the film and by the end her life has changed for the better for her and it's evident by her smile at the end.
I don't see this as a horror film, maybe more of psychological and cult views. Don't be fooled, there is definitely bizarre scenes and gruesome accounts, lol.
Apparently the film is based on letting go of relationships and welcoming on new ones (in a weird nutty way)
At the end you can see Danis release of everything once she smiles at the end.
Borg McEnroe (2017)
character selection vs actual real life person is scary on point
Overall, the film is slow and dramatic in the sense of a gentleman vs thug, championship. Would have lives to have seen more background as too both characters mental state (borgs mental state in the woods as a child/teen and mcenroe at therapy). Last 30 mins was the only slow part of the film and dramatic finish to the film. The end felt stale, even though they left on "good terms" the production felt rushed during the end scene. Decent film to see on a slow day. A deeper persona into the characters was what was missing. Still decent film.
Also just found out borgs actual son played him as a child, which is why the photos at end of film look exactly like him. Great play in that sense!
Uncut Gems (2019)
Anxiety from start to finish
This movie is beyond underrated. Adam Sandler and the screen play for this film is genuine and I feel shows a deep insight to addiction, gambling problems, and feeling like a true New Yorker. I feel like this a modern day Rounders, but In a different spin. I will say Sandler is not the best emotional cryer, but he puts up with so much throughout the film and unable to catch a break.
Aziz Ansari: Right Now (2019)
One of his best stand ups
This was very original and heartfelt. He came from a great place Doing this show. Spike jonze did an amazing job with this!
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Bitter sweet good bye!
After spending 10 years investing into a franchise such as Marvel and seeing its final product, I'd have to say it was satisfying and heartbreaking. Yes, we know future films are coming out after this, but to focus on what is at hand here is the point. It was worth going to the opening weekend show at 2am on a Friday morning. If i had to critique as being unbiased I will say it is a bit longer than needed, but when you watch it doesn't seem as though it was. Everything moved together, but for those who have seen, the time traveling can be a bit confusing to some (myself included) just because they found a way to leave some stories open for the future films. Was proud to be a part of watching wonderful experience and film!
