Risen (2016)
Fabulous movie. Very enjoyable Accurate historicty
Ive watched this tonight on Amazon Prime and what a treasure of a movie!!!
Great casting. Joseph Fiennes and Cliff Curtis and all the cast were super and pulled you in to the story
Loved how the story gave a fresh look at the resurrection story.
Very realistic depiction of Jerusalem under Roman rule in 33AD.
I could watch Ralph Fiennes all day. He draws you into the story without saying anything.
Co grats to the scriptwriter on a great retelling of the well-known events.
Really realistic sets and costumes
The crucifixion parts especially were so realistically done and Pilates was perfect
Shout out to Kiwi actor Cliff Curtis for an excellent job.
10/10.
One Life (2023)
A Must See Movie
My son and I have just seen this movie in Wellington New Zealand and I am blown away with what a wonderful telling of a brave and heroic story it was.
I must say it was perfectly cast. Anthony Hopkins was sublime, Johnny Flynn was excellent as was all the rest of the cast. I particularly enjoyed Helena Bonham Carter as Nicky's mother.
Also the child actors were just perfect in their roles.
I enjoyed the actors playing Trevor and Doreen too they were excellent.
The movie perfectly captured 1939 Prague and 1987 England.
Great script. Great acting. Great production.
You must see this movie!!
10/10.
Emma. (2020)
An absolute delight
Just been to see Emma with my son and daughter and what a delight it was!
Perfectly cast!! Anya is a wonderful Emma, and I think they scoured England for the handsomest man they could find in Johnny Flynn as Mr Knightly
Bill Nighey and Miranda Hart added great character acting and humour.
Beautiful set in some stunning country homes The music really added to the polish of the movie it was like a character of its own
Emma followed the book faithfully and was perfectly paced, and the humour was played to the max it was so fun to watch. Spoiler: Mr Woodhouse and his 3 screens was a laugh out loud moment and there were many others!
Give yourself a treat and see this movie!!!!
I plan to go again
Ben-Hur (2016)
Loved this movie!!
My 13 year old daughter and I watched this on DVD today and we loved it!!!
Loved the story, the acting was amazing- especially Jack Huston and Toby Kebbell-and its EPIC
I've seen the 1959 version but I liked this far better.
Totally going to buy the DVD for our video library
Well done everyone!!!
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (2016)
Wonderful truthful retelling of Benghazi
I feel compelled to review this and say what a wonderful and truthful retelling of the Benghazi battle this movie is. BIG props to Michael Bay and his team, especially having the real men as close consultants on the film. Well done the actors for a very realistic portrayal of these heroes. This film answered all my questions about Benghazi and has HUGE integrity. Was very violent- as were the real events but very realistically done. It was so shocking watching the attack on Ambassador Stevens and hearing him radioing for help- so hard to watch, his poor family :( This film should be shown in to every politician and every school kid around the world. Great film 10/10
Zoolander 2 (2016)
Very very funny but leave the kids at home
My husband and I have just seen this and really enjoyed it. We laughed a lot there are some very out there and clever jokes. The actors are all great just as in the first Zoolander. Penelope Cruz of course is sensational and beautiful and funny. The story was clever and different. Derek Zoolander Junior needs rescuing from the evil MUgatu. I was sitting there thinking how funny it was and how my 12 year old would love the jokes when there was a VERY risqué scene which made me think "Nope". I do think the movie could have stood without the crudity that is pretty strong in places. It was very very funny and there are some surprising cameos throughout. I would recommend this movie as a fun night out for adults or older teens. 8/10 Thanks Ben Stiller and best wishes to you.
Just a note I've read the other reviews on this site and Im amazed at how many people have NO sense of humour. Kind of sad.
Boy (2010)
Absolutely unmissable movie.
Hubby and I went to see this movie last Friday and unfortunately missed the first 10 minutes as we were given the tickets by friends. We sat in a movie theatre with at least 40 people- something quite rare.
The movie drew me in straight away to the rural 80s where young Boy and his brother were growing up and meeting their father for the first time.
As the movie explored their relationship it was bitter-sweet and very humorous. All the leads acted beautifully and the story, directing and settings were very well done. It was honest, funny, compassionate, heart-wrenching, powerful and life-affirming. I'm still thinking about it days later with a grin.
I take my hat off to Mr Waititi for writing, directing and acting in this movie- its a wonderful film. Can't wait to see your next one.
All the actors were fantastic but I must mention the young Maori leads who were brilliant.
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008)
Fantastic- go and see it- now!!!!!!!
We went to see Prince Caspian tonight for my sons 11th birthday- all 13 of us (including 5 friends).
I have to say what fantastic film!!!!!! Absolutely wonderful in every way- acting, costumes, directing.
Andrew Adamson and all your crew- thank you so much for doing such a wonderful job.
We are big Narnia fans and we loved it so much.
What wonderful actors all the leads are, especially William, Anna, Skandar and Georgie- you guys are great!
What a great adaptation of the book! We all can't wait for The Dawn Treader and all the others. Please make all the others as soon as you can :)
Also great job of Caspian by Ben Barnes- look froward to seeing him again in The Dawn Treader. He nailed the part of Caspian!
St. Trinian's (2007)
Fantastic Movie
Hi from Hobbitland! I saw this movie today with my two teenage daughters and a friend and laughed through the whole movie.
It is very very VERY clever, with brilliant acting, writing and sets!
Great job by all the actors especially Rupert Everett (except he was not his usual gorgeous self in the manly role!!) As Camilla he was priceless!!! How he and Colin Firth ever managed to shoot with straight faces . . . I can't wait for the DVD to come out. I hope there are outtakes on it!
As funny as She's The Man- which I think is very funny.
A great job to all involved!!!
The Water Horse (2007)
Highly recommended movie for all ages- don't miss it!
I have just returned from seeing The Water Horse with four of my children aged 16 to 4. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. I have to say the beginning was a little slow as Angus found the egg, but once all the characters were introduced, and Crusoe had hatched, the plot revved along. The pompous Army Captain was fun to watch! The WWII surrounds were wonderful, all the casting was excellent- no wrong notes by any of the cast. The boy playing Angus was really enjoyable to watch. It was a "children's movie" but as a forty-something adult I was swept along into the adventure and enjoyed it very much. I loved how the plot was multi-layered and plenty of tension as Crusoe comes under threat from some trigger-happy army soldiers. I have to point out that Lake Whakatipu in NZ's South Island was used for a lot of the Loch Ness scenes so should get credit from those who loved the scenery! Bravo to WETA Workshop for the realism and believability of the water horse- just gorgeous! He/she has plenty of screen time too. This is a great movie for all ages. It is sure-footed and very enjoyable!! For Kiwis watching it's fun spotting familiar faces in the supporting cast.
