Only Murders in the Building (2021)
Started out with a bang but I feel a whimper is coming.
The first season was very good but the writing began to suffer in the second season although "The Tell" is my favorite of all episodes. The final episode of the second season was a total flop. I'm surprised the writing was so bad. They attempted to have twist after twist which ended up confusing and more importantly uninteresting. I started watching the third episode but with the mixing in of all the new characters, I lost interest. Sadly, Selena Gomez has very little acting ability and spends most of the time appearing like she has some form of affective disorder with her blank delivery and deadpan look. I know they can do better and I hope they do. So many series start out great with the writers failing to top their first season. All Creatures Great and Small has suffered the same fate.
Unforgotten (2015)
Painfully Slow
I could only get through the first season. It moves so slowly that you'll find something else to do while watching it. I had to switch to ESPN a few times to take a break. The Brits must move at a much slower speed.. They also had some silly parts like the entire team engrossed in this one old case. I'm assuming no one else died in London while they were working on this case.
Additionally, suspects are arrested and questioned without asking for legal assistance. When a lawyer does happen to be present, the suspect does all the talking. We also have the usual social commentary on race, gender and abuse by priests. I did look up the fact that suspects can be held for up to 36 hours before they are allowed to see their lawyer. I'm sure it helps the British police get a better conviction rate - one way or another.
All Creatures Great & Small (2020)
Excellent in the beginning but is fading fast like Ted Lasso
The first season was fantastic and the second was good. The third season began exploring other storylines that, quite frankly, were uninteresting. Helen is boring. The only touching part was Tristan's enlistment and subsequent departure. I continue to find the music quite good.
It's often the case that the ideas that provide the genesis for a series often come off quite well in the first year or two but sadly fade. In this case, they at least had the books and the previous series to help them.
My extended family would gather to watch the first and second season episodes. We didn't do it this year and the next season will be relegated to the DVR. The writing just fell off!
Keeping Faith (2017)
Great until season 3
I was really enjoying this series especially after the first season. Season 2 slipped a bit and season 3 was ridiculous. Law enforcement appeared utterly moronic and the writing suffered. The third season also had a secondary story line that was unrelated to the general feel of the series and was out of place. I started with Keeping Faith and by time I watched the final episode it had become Losing Faith.
