The Green Inferno (2013)
Colorful disappointment
I do like the horror genre, I have also watched cannibal movies, so Green Inferno seemed like a fresh air. But just the trailer. I was amazed by the colors of the native Indians, the Amazonian forest, the life in the village, the faces, the body paintings. But for me this is all the movie could offer. Of course, it was shocking, but just for the sake of being shocking, it was ruthless because horror movies supposed to be ruthless, it did not show any mercy, yes, I admit it. But if all this don't combine with a good plot, good acting, consistency it will fail. So the outcome was a light, horror-like experiment with plenty of blood and scream. I got bored at a certain point, because the director didn't seem to be really serious about the movie. So why should I take it seriously? He is focusing so much on the fact that the movie should be shocking, horrifying, that he forgets the rest. Thus stupid scenes are plenty: the whole village gets high because of that marijuana-trick, the sick girl with her diarrhea, the masturbation scene in the cage, the guy pissing with the tarantula, the phone is ringing after days, at exactly the time when the fled whites are close, to hear it, the circumcision subject involved, oh, there are so many silly moments in the movie. There was no tension, suspense, intelligent turns. I was waiting for some sense, some good idea throughout the movie. But beside the voice of the jungle and the native Indians' bright color, I got a boring, yet another "a group of teens gets lost and then finally finds a place where they get killed on by one" movie. The Amazonian people could be explored so much more, not just use it as an exotic setting. The plot was watery, single lined, nothing brilliant. The captives had no plan whatsoever, they did nothing. The one girl, who escaped and fell in the boat was forgotten for good. What happened to her? I don't know. Well, I was disappointed.
