Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Slight let down?!?!
Went to watch Top Gun Maverick tonight with my son who hasn't seen the first one, which is amazing because I must have watched it a further half dozen times since he was born?
Now if you don't want a brief synopsis then stop reading now!
Excellent action scenes the pilots should all be given medals/Oscars because those scenes are awesome 😎👍
However, the film that is packaged around these scenes is at best average. It seems like they have tried to reinvent the first film within the second? There is an American football game instead of a volleyball game. Maverick says 'talk to me Goose' and cringingly Gooses son (I know!) (Miles Teller) Says 'talk to me dad!!!'
Let's not forget Tom Cruise is 60 this year 😱😱 so his character would be of a similar age and therefore long past his operational age limit but annoyingly the man could still pass for mid 30's! There is also a cameo of 'Iceman' played by Val Kilmer as in the original, although he is now a 3 star Admiral, anyone who knows of Kilmers tragic story will think how? But they do pull it off really well 😎👍Anyway there are a few more prescriptive elements that have been shoehorned in there but it's still worth a watch for the previously mentioned aerial scenes which are fantastic. Would I watch it again? Yes but a fair part of the 2hours 11 minutes will be fast forwarded (of course I'm buying the BlueRay!)
Plagiarism, almost but still enough duplication from the first one to make me lower the score from an otherwise excellent aerial action movie, my son who hasn't seen the original scored it a 9.
Robbo: The Bryan Robson Story (2021)
Captain Marvel
You forget just how good this self effacing warrior was, I'm an Albion fan and of the right age to be able to remember his 9 years at the club, he took on teams and beat them (with some help from the rest of the team obviously) the 78/79 season I fervently believe we would have won the league if there had not been that delay for the weather, and that primarily was down to Robbo who at the time was considered the best player in the English League!
A similar but bigger comment comes from Gary Lineker who is convinced that had Robbo stayed fit we would have won in either 1986 or 1990 he was that good and that important 👏
