The Wizard of Oz (1939)
An Impressive Product of it's time
I didn't expect this film to actually be a musical, but it's songs are solid and the visuals are very vibrant and fun, which makes the cliche and quite bland plot pretty entertaining, the characters are iconic for a reason, even if the acting is a bit dry and cheesy. For the time this a marvel both in terms of quality and the technical hurdles it took to make, even if their were massive consequences needed in order to tackle those hurdles. Overall, its quite fun and enjoyable for a movie of its time, that is iconic for a reason, even if it is at least a decent bit imbalanced with its execution.
A Burglar to the Rescue (1931)
Capsule of 1930s Cinema
Its an enjoyable romp that is a beautiful time capsule of the 1930s, even if it is a bit forgettable. The story feels both completely original and like it has been done before a million times, which gives a very interesting feel. It also marks the first appearance of The Shadow, an early pre-DC superhero, who barely shows up, except to narrate this adventure. The acting is pretty good for the time, giving this a 30s feel that really makes this pretty dull short really enjoyable. I watched this a few months ago and it is the first thing I watched in 2023, and I'd say I started the year strong, with a solid little short film.
A Brief History of Graphics (2015)
A Brief History of Graphics - A Video that Gets Prettier over Time
This video is awesome, the art is gorgeous, which makes sense considering the subject matter, the action is.
Barack and Ronaldo (2012)
Barack & Ronaldo - The Embodiment of High School Group Projects
These two shorts are perfect, while the story and cinematography aren't great, the action is jam-packed and these shorts are the perfect embodiment of a group project when you're with good friends.
A Fox in Space: Don't Call Me Star Fox (2016)
An Homage to 90s Cartoons and a Love Letter to Star Fox
This cartoon is perfect, the art is gorgeous with the way it nails the '90s Saturday Morning Cartoon' look and feel, the action is minimal but impactful, and the story is interesting with the voice acting feeling like something that was officially made by Nintendo.
