Dune: Part Two (2024)
What are people seeing in this movie?
I just don't understand the high scoring for this movie? Long drawn out scenes with constant accompanying noise (it's not back ground music, it's continuous noise similar to a fog horn). The time of this movie could be halved if they removed most of the artistic license.
Overall though, it's boring, really really dull.
I'd love to leave it at that, but there is a requirement for minimum word count. So to make the review more interesting I'll tell you about the weather in Inverness today, it's a strong to gale force westerly with intermittent showers of rain and hail. I wish all reading this a good day.
Misanthrope (2023)
It's not good & I'm being polite...
It starts well, the first 4 minutes.
Then it all goes horribly wrong, a beat cop goes beyond her call of duty, enters a crime scene that she clearly had no entitlement be in, then says something odd in the kitchen at the police department which is overheard by the FBI lead who recruits her as the FBI/Police liaison officer, she then somehow becomes a investigator within the enquiry. This movie really insults the intelligence of a 4 year old, it's utter garbage.
If I could be bothered I'd list the ridiculously poor plot faults one by one, but I don't want to give it the time of day, I just wanted to come on here and write a poor review.
Don't both this movie.
Elvis (2022)
Disjointed
Fair play to Austin Butler, but you can't polish a turd. The whole movie was a mess, no continuity. The once great Tom Hanks also had a shocker. Over 2.5 hours I learned very little about the legendary Elvis Presley, what a pity.
Dunkirk (2017)
Frustrating
As a director, get the basics right, it's almost like watching different films when in one beach scene it's calm with clear skies and sunshine, and the next... overcast with crashing waves.
Also... the constant sound effects/music are awful. The brave service personnel of WWII deserve better.
Just my opinion.
Never Say Never Again (1983)
Never Again thank goodness...
Connery lured in by a pay packet, clearly his worst outing as James Bond. He should have thought about his legacy rather than the money. Nothing else to add, other than I'd give it a miss and do something less boring instead.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Fun
This is what going to the cinema is all about. The movie has nods to the original Top Gun for us older timers, but it also has its own story line. The final 30 minutes of this movie is where it comes into its own. Well done to all involved, a fantastic production.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Wow...
Every now and again a blockbuster is born. Well done Marvel for a truly original concept which was fantastically directed. I found myself not being lost in the blur of CGI as I have in previous recent Marvel productions. All of the A listers should be commended for their acting. What a great way for the cinematic experience to start for 2022.
Jeff Lynne's ELO: Wembley or Bust (2017)
Understated EXCELLENCE
I was fortunate enough to be there the night this was filmed, this production is the next best thing to being there. I have and will watch it over & over & over... Thanks for the memories Jeff & ELO.
A View to a Kill (1985)
Stood up well against the test of time...
I thought I'd come onto IMDB to see the reviews this got, and was surprised at the low percentage.
I think this was possibly Moore's best 007 film (let's be honest their were a couple of horrors) who was assisted by some Hollywood A listers.
What impressed most was the script, it's a good storyline and has been well adapted onto the silver screen.
A great way to bow out of your Bond era Mr Moore.
No Time to Die (2021)
Great start...
But petered out... it wasn't a bad way to say farewell to Craig, but could have done better.
Time to get a new writer/director and remake some classics with a new actor.
Secret Safari: Into the Wild (2021)
True Life Safari
Wow, what a great series, fun, emotional, heartwarming & heartbreaking.
I thought the interaction with the Rangers was a brilliant addition to this show.
I thought this is up there with any BBC documentary, great work Channel 4.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Easy does it...
You know when you attend a 3 day course and you leave at the end thinking we could have achieved that in half a day? Well...
The Invisible Man (2020)
Anything less than a 5/10 is ridiculous
So many reviewers with hatred for this film. I really don't get it? A lot of the plot holes talked about are easily explained. I'm not going to put spoilers in this review, but if those of you complaining can't work it out I'm afraid you might have to expand your mind.
In my opinion it was good fun, suspenseful with a little added gore. What's not to like?
The Perfect Host (2010)
How have I missed this?
Loved it, what fun, refreshingly different with a twist or two. It's a big thumbs up from me.
The Great Pottery Throw Down (2015)
Great Show, Welcome Back.
The BBC are churning out rubbish after rubbish. Well done C4 for firstly saving the Bake Off and now my favourite The Pottery Throw Down.
Mel Sykes is worth the admission fee alone.
Joker (2019)
Dark, disturbing & powerful = Brilliant
This for me is the movie of the year so far. Take a bow Joaquin, a very powerful performance and I imagine very challenging to portray. Mental health is something that is identified in everyday life, something that cannot be ignored and needs to be understood and appreciated. Every action has a reaction which ultimately took us on a ride and on occasion difficult to watch conclusion. I appreciate it was 'Joker', but even without the DC Comic association, this would have been a powerful film.
It Chapter Two (2019)
Looooooooooong... far to long!
Some good bits, some bits that are unnecessary (homophobic?) and a ending that doesn't do Pennywise justice.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Exhausting...
Sitting through a film (I'm English) for that amount of time for 10 minutes action that has a tenuous link to a non existent plot was hard work.
How has this got a review rating of 8.0 when the overall consensus is its a pile of do do is beyond me!
Serengeti (2019)
I had to get an account just to review this programme.
This undoubtedly is the worst BBC wildlife documentary I have seen in my 46 years on planet earth.
The narrator is subdued and tiresome. The special effects are not only unnecessary but poor, very poor. The blaze scene was especially terrible. The need to put story lines with stitched together film sequences is farcical. Is it really necessary to give animals names? And the music, awful, just awful.
