Where is the Love
19 August 2006
Let me first specify that I am, one that would agree that novels are generally better than the movie that might be adapted from them. I am appauld at the reaction to this beautiful film. I am a proud owner of this movie, for the fact it has one heck of a serious plot, and shows the character of BEcky sharp in a light that lets you judge for yourself, whether this "social climber", should be put in her place, or let loose to climb to high society. I don't think any novel can be completely taken to screen with the same richness as its source. Now with that out of the way, lets get on too the film. It stares the very talented Reese Witherspoon who adopts a perfect English accent, and can boost about learning belly dancing and other such dances for the film. The novel if you will call it that, by Willam Thackery Mackapiece, was actually newspaper article that he collected and put to a novel. So knowing that I am proud to say, that this screen adaptation by Mira Nair really hits the mark.

If I wanted to see a book exactly the same on film, I would not have gone to see a film that was publicized, "as a different take on classic material." The book I was forced to read in the 11th grade, and I must say trying to capture 800+ pages on film with all the little subplots would have been tedious and even boring. This adaptation uses the character of BEcky Sharp to show how one may climb the social ladder, while still maintaining who she always is. The story that unfolds is about how people will change in life, sometimes for the good and some for the bad, but it is inevitable. I want to go on about how I rarely watch a movie more than once, but this movie I not only own, but try to watch at least twice a week, cause there is always a new layer to the film that I didn't notice last time. And to the final questions no, I don't know anybody in the production or the cast. Though if Mira Nair is casting one of her films, I would be happy to be a part of her work, after seeing this fantastic film!!!!!

Queer Duck: The Movie (2006 Video)

"It is Gayday at HAPPYLAND."
19 August 2006
People need to understand, that sometimes everyone enjoys a light-hearted comedy, that sparks creative freedom. Okay, sure the premise is about 15 years too late, its about a gay duck and his silly adventures. But what makes this truly enjoyable comedy, absolute hilarious, is its ability not to take itself too seriously. Growing up gay and Jewish makes me relate to the entire characterization of Seymour Duckstein. But when this melodramatic comedy, has names of cartoon characters such as Oscar Wildcat, Bi-Polar bear, just too name a few. I cant recommend this comedy enough, if you want a funny, laugh-out-loud comedy that is so tongue-and-cheek it makes family guy look like the first seasons of the Simpson's. The only shortcomings, that the film has is it is 74-79 minutes , plus I would have loved to see a full soundtrack instead of musical members that last maybe a minute or two.

Kicking ass and wearing stilettos....But someones got to do it

Warning: Spoilers
Okay, the story is an over the top approach to breach the struggling efforts of a prostitute, turned to being a stripper, who later turns into a primer dancer at the stardust hotel. There it is plain and simple. What people fail to realize is the film is made to show the depths of humanity that try to deliver fascades to you and I. Let me explain, almost everyone in the movie has an ulterior motive to try and get where they want, and who they might have to trip to get there. The film exposes the underbelly of how a Las Vegas show girl might have to quit having morals, and show her breasts to get ahead. When the film was made it was to expose where the world was, as far as dancers, in nude shows and what they had to go through. Yes, it is campy, and probably could have been made with more integrity. But what is never realized by the public is that this movie maybe overtly sexual, and no-holds bard but it is honest above all else. I would know, I am a dancer. But if you want my advice, the directors cut is rated R and is a fantastic cut of the film, the NC-17 version seems to be less of a film than a slide show in sleaze.

A touch of sweetness in the air, which tickles the soul
21 May 2006
Warning: Spoilers
OK, maybe the movie was a ten in moments and others was more over all an 8.5 for me. The story is about a young aspiring chief, Gellar. Her mother, aunt, and her are all the family she has, and have been living at and owning the restaurant called the "SOuthern Cross." Amanda(gellar) gets wind the land lord has raised the rent, and now unless her and her AUnt come up with the money, then they are out (mother is died at this point). So Amanda preparing for the worst, puts on her best face, and decides to go find her mothers recipe book, but comes up with a pair of earrings, that make her have the confidence to cook. The story follows, that she gets accused of being a witch because magical things start to happen around her and her new fling and later boyfriend. Mixin side characters that seem desperate to be laid, a sound stage that seems like an old MGM musical, and a few fairytale elements, and u got a mixture of pure popcorn fun, and favolidity ((bad speller). Fun factor- 10 Overall-8.5
