Twilight (2008)
Mmm.. vampiros emos?
Cool but illogical film
I just saw it yesterday in cable TV. Anyway... I love these little horror Mexican gems directed from Ruben Galindo. Sadly it was a cut version, but i didn't ruin the mood anyway. Two major plot holes.. or goofs..
1. The doctor (Hugo Stiglitz) said that the killer only can die burn to ashes.. but later said he needs the black book for destroy him.
2. It is suppose to be Halloween night, but when the boys are reading the book, they said something about.. "This is the sixth day of the sixth month?... ¿Uh?...
Anyway.. everybody watch these movies for the jumps, not for the logical sense of it...
Sorry for my bad English...
Troy (2004)
Forget History! That's Entertaiment!
What an impressive movie. Troy made me remember old classics,
sword and sandals style.. It's one of the best movie of his genre. I
think Eric Bana steal the show as Hector. I expect that he earns a
nomination next year. I don't care if the script is an adaptation or
not of Homer's poem. I want to make clear one thing: This is a movie, not a history class,
so enjoy this product as it deserve: Switch your brain off, eat pop
corn, drink a soda and presto!! Remember... That's only
entertaiment. If you want to watch things like they happened, the go to the History
Channel or National Geographic. Maybe the golden years of Hollywood are back. Who knows?
Minority Report (2002)
One word: Boring
I don´t know if I missed something about this movie but I didn't like it. I really want to see it but it was a boring surprise to me. Don't
get me wrong. It has great visuals but the plot was hard to follow
and a little confused. Sorry Spielberg, I'm a big fan of your work, but this time you didn't convince me. And Tom Cruise, you
need to put more soul in your work.
The Ring (2002)
What else can I say?
I just want to make a short commentary, because everything that can be say about the movie is said. Is the best ghost story I seen in years. Give me the creeps since the beginning. Very slow sometimes but beautifully well done.
The Mask of Zorro (1998)
That's what we the latino people are made of
This is a very cool movie that portrays a very positive look of we the
latino people. Anthony Hopkins gives a solid perforrmance and Antonio Banderas rules the movie. Anyway, Zorro is the very first latino super hero with charm, good looking and always gets the señoritas fell on his feet. Way to go.
Viva el Zorro ¡¡ El zorro for presidente ¡¡
Enemy Mine (1985)
Scifi Masterpiece, Tolerance is what we need in the world
This is a very underrated film. I saw it again last night with my 8 years old son and both enjoyed it a lot. Despite the bad FX. The real gem in the movie is the message. The movie is one of the few examples when the FX works for the movie, and not the movie for the FX. Anyway, the racial theme has an over the top treatment and remember me these days when tolerance is not a thing that people use everyday. Petersen show us that very clear and the movie (despite the sentimental ending) served me to talk with my son about tolerance and how people of the world is very stupid and let them go for skin color or religion. I am a latin guy who live in Central America and suffered intolerance in USA because of my ethnic condition a couple of times when I visited that country . Too shame.
Everybody has to watch it, specially after 9/11.
Beast from Haunted Cave (1959)
Awesome
Well, it was the last entry in a a Roger Corman´s tribute DVD that I
bought couple weeks ago. The other movies were "Creature of the
haunted sea" and "The Wasp woman". I think this is the best
movie of this trilogy. ** SPOILERS ** I love the atmosferic final 10
minutes of film, especially when we realize that the beast sucks
the blood of its victims in the cave, where it kept people captive. I
think it was very impressive from 50s audience ** SPOILER
ENDS** Now I know were Ridley Scott and James Cameron took some
ideas for Alien saga. It' a must see for any creature fan or early
sci-fi/horror fan.
The Wasp Woman (1959)
Better than I expected
OK, I bought recently a DVD named Roger Corman's Creature
Collection. It features The Wasp Woman, Creature from the
haunted sea and Beast from the haunted Cave.
I saw Creature but it was a little bit dissapointed to me. The Wasp
Woman was very enjoyable. Besides the silly make up (A mask
and a pair of gloves) of the wasp woman, the plot was interesting. I
watched with my son (8 years old) and he laugh a lot when the
monster finally appears on screen. I know when we hear "Roger
Corman's movie" always think about low standards. But I really get the mood of the film and (I have to confess) feel a
little scared the last ten minutes. Gosh... How badly I enjoyed this
kind of movies.
I only have left Beast from the haunted cave to watch it in a few
days. I hope enjoy the movie.
Creature from the Haunted Sea (1961)
That is the way to make movies
Ok, first of all, I have to say that this movie was below my expectations. But, later wondering about that amount of the cash spend on it, I think it was a masterpiece.
Well, the plot is very original and the cast made a lot to not laugh' with the script. In the other hand, I don't like the way the film show the latin people. We are not that stupid.
I think the film is very fresh and that's the way to make a film with little resources. Sadly, they don't make films like this anymore.
Except Robert Rodriguez of course.
Terremoto en Guatemala (1978)
It made me remember that nightmare
Well, I´m 32 years old now, but when that awful nightmare I was only 6 years old. Maybe the film has a lot of goofs and technical difficulties, but made me remember all the tragedy in my town.
The movie begins when a couple get married and then go to a hotel on their wedding night. Suddenly, the earthquake comes and the hotel come down. They are the only survivors and the husband tries to make a tunnel to get help for his wife, who has her legs broke.
In the middle of the movie, real footage of the tragedy is shown and narrates the dimensions of the tragedy: 100 thousand people died and half a million people with his houses destroyed. A narration says thanks to every country to help us to rebuild our country, including México, countries of Central America, Spain, USA and a very special thanks to prisoners in Montevideo, who donate their blood to help earthquake's victims.
I saw this movie yesterday with my son (8 years old) and he couldn't imagine the magnitude of the tragedy. Personally, I will never forget it and hope never revive that nightmare again.
About the film, Norma Lazareno did an excellent job, sadly her talent is used in mexican soap operas only. By the way, the movie was made in Guatemala and not in Mexico.
The Unborn II (1994)
Is not that bad
I found this horror gem in a local store and bought it. I watched it yesterday's night and was a surprise for me. I love B movies and this was very satisfying.
In order to enjoy this kind of movies, you have to switch off your brain. After that, you have to pretend that the primitive animatronic baby is real (at least in the movie).
Finally, don't pretend to find Oscar's performances for the actors.
After that, enjoy an excellent movie. The plot is good and believable, tha acting is OK, the music score is excellent.
In my opinion, it deserves a 5.0
My advice, look for it in your local video rental, and enjoy.
Red Planet (2000)
Mission to Mars is better
Don't waste your time watching it. Red Planet has a very cool locations but nothing more.. I thought this movie was better than Mission to Mars, but now I pick up Brian de Palma´s flick.
On second thought, try to find and watch "Robinson Crusoe on Mars"..
That's a smart movie about people get trapped in another plane
