Wonder Woman (2017)
Wonder Woman: Best DC Movie after the Batman Trilogy!
Just watched the first show and everybody started clapping when the credit started to roll in the end. That says a lot about a movie.
Many of us had doubt when Gal Gadot was cast as Wonder Woman, and she proved the worth. What an amazing cast! Hollywood is full of beautiful actresses, but Gal also has a great personality which resonates with her character very well. She is strong as well as funny. Chris Pine turned out to be the perfect sidekick and love interest of Diana. He has this old classic Hollywood look. I am hoping we will see more of Connie Nelson and Robin Wright's character in the next venture.
I don't want to go further into screenplay. It has its tiny flaws, but we have seen much worse in recent times. Many people might argue why the WWI? Well, the core of the movie is not the war, but the darkness inside us that causes the war. You can easily relate it to today's narrative.
I enjoyed the movie through and through. Finally a quality superhero movie from DC after Batman Trilogy. You go Gal!
Dangal (2016)
Must Watch for Every Film Lover!
I got the privilege to watch this film earlier than the India release as I happen to live in North America. Thank you Disney! Now, what to say about 'Dangal'? It's not a typical Bollywood film, yet it is easily the best Bollywood film ever, even in terms of every, so called, Bollywood masala trick. The incredible storytelling, based on true events, every small detailing, amazing cast, the message it had without being preachy or pretentious but still powerful-there was not one single boring moment in the movie-well, probably one, if you are too picky!,though it is nearly three hours! Kudos to the director! And what to say about Aamir khan? Though he did not have any dramatic moment in the movie (those belong to the girls, who were fabulous by the way), he is not the charming usual boy next door, sexy or cheeky person(the traits which are generally associated with Aamir Khan); rather he is a brute, has a tummy for the majority length of the movie-yet you will not be able to keep him off your mind, even after the movie ends, and easily the best Aamir khan performance ever (and yes, I have seen every Aamir khan film, each a million time).
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016)
As Karan said - this is a story about love, but not a love story
When I first saw the reviews - my first reaction was the movie must be awful, then I realized most of the people who have written the reviews did not watch the movie or did not understand the depth it had. Most of the people came to watch a romantic movie. Unfortunately, this is not a typical romantic movie to begin with. Many can claim it has too many components taken from other movies, and yes that was the point of the two lead characters - recreating old Bollywood movies. And if you know about love stories there are 18-20 angles that you can play with, and after 100 years of filmmaking those angles have already portrayed on the silver screen about zillion times. Yes, it is true Karan Johan has directed better movies than this. But comparing the story-line with Tamaasha or Rockstar is not so fair. Tamasa was a soul searching movie and rockstar was a soul destructing one. Where as ADHM solely focused on the main leads and their emotions. Two central character were very much present for each other. This story is not only about one-sided love. Both of them loved each other a awful lot, but their expectation from one another was different. For me, this film was refreshing because till the end the character stick to their emotions. They didn't change because people might want to watch a different ending. This film might not be talking about bigger issues, but after a while a film is talking about a valued relationship (not based on sex). And movie also portrayed physical attraction cannot be the base of a strong healthy relationship unlike many other popular films. Though people are talking about this is a movie about 'rich' people, but if you get past those material things and look closely what the characters are trying to say, you will find a lot of things common with yourself, you might want to value your friends more.
Performance wise, I really liked that the cast was small. There were no stupid distraction. Nothing new to say about Ranbir, but Anushka really surprised me. Fawad khan had a really small role, but effective one. I was really surprised to see SRK and Aishwariya sharing the same screen space after a decade. SRK is mesmerizing. He had five-six lines and he stole the show. Aishwariya Rai B. looked like heaven. I dunno why she looked so sultry in the promos, but she was so graceful in the movie. Thank you Karan Johar.
Really loved the music. If I had to change something, I would have edited a bit in the second half, and the ending shots during the song (Maybe used some other shots of Anushka, that is not shown before, from Ranbir's point of view) to make a stronger impact. I still cried though.
That's my take on ADHM.
Aao Wish Karein (2009)
Nice Film with a heart!
Thank god for a simple and sweet movie.
Not trying to preach you anything big, not having a huge moral, or a huge budget, or super stars trying to look super cool, thank god for all that. The first thing you'd notice about Aao Wish Karien is, that it is an amazingly sweet movie, which makes you laugh and cry and certain points, and I can't wait to say this, I think Aftab has arrived. The performance of Aaftab was so nuanced and well balanced, a grown up with a heart and mind of kid, it reminded me of Hrithik's performance in Krish, only there was no over the top ham acting. Story is, in one line, a kid who wishes to grow up because the girl he loves thinks he is a kid, actually grows up the next day. Like all the good movies, I didn't think it was long, I didn't go out during the songs, I laughed at the right moments (others laughed as well) and was holding back a tear at the right moment as well (others did as well). Now only thing I want is all my friends to watch this movie, and support his kind of cinema, it is good and refreshing. Please don't pay 100/200 bucks to movies like Blue, just to watch someone's biceps and someone else's cleavage, watch a movie made by heart and care, and not by slick editing, and oodles of money thrown in. Heart warming, indeed.
Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009)
Finally!
Well I didn't expect too much from this film. Its a romantic comedy for sure. We could see that from the trailer. These days I don't expect too much from a Hindi film. They have a huge star casts, excellent location, beautifully pictured songs, but they lack in story and editing. But i can say after "Love Aaj Kal", this year APKGK is a treat to watch. I am not saying its a perfect film, but its a pleasure for heart. If you want to have a good laugh then APKGK is the film for you.
After a long time I found that in a Hindi film which is not trying to portray its surroundings real. You know from the first scene that its a fiction. R.K Santoshi made it very clear. Its a movie where anything can happen and they don't want to make you believe its real. Its up to you to believe! I am not going to compare it with Andaz Apna Apna. It was one of a kind.
There is no Amir Khan and Salman Khan in APKGK instead we have this Ranvir Kapoor with amazing comic timing! He was superb in the film! Reminded me of Hrithik Roshan in Kaho Na....! Ranvir was so fresh and his chemistry with Katrina Kaif was wonderful! Bollywood have a new on screen couple who compliments each other. And I figured it out later that there is no romantic scenes (except two songs and a conversation in dream!) between the two, but they looked amazing whenever they were together.
And the nicest thing about this movie is its decency! Mr. Santoshi (he is also the co writer) didn't use "sex" or "homosexuality" for comedy! Bollywood should learn!
Songs were really nice! Pritam did a good job! I fell in love with the song "Tera Hone Laga Ho" and "Tu Jane Na". Katrina looked really pretty and real for the first time.
It was a nice film with an amazing cast(including the supporting actors, except Upen Patel!). Amazing locations (Goa and Ooty looked awesome)and amazing punches! Its a comedy after all!
Batman Begins (2005)
Best Superhero Movie Ever!!!!
I am not a Batman fan...actually i am a Superman Fan.But after watching this movie i was overwhelmed! Definitely its a good movie!! Much better than the previous ones. But Christian Bale completely amazed me. I have seen most of his movies. He always did some great movies but never got recognised properly. What a great actor he is. He did this double role of Bruce Wayne/Batman so naturally that it made me almost believe that he is actually this person. For the first time Batman/Bruce Wayne was human..we could see his fear, grief, rage, love. Now about the movie..all thanks to Christopher Nolan that he did this movie.Otherwise we could have never known that a superhero movie could be made so earthly!!
