Violet Evergarden (2018)
The ultimate showcase of the anime medium
The violet evergarden series truly holds all the apex points to which a masterpiece anime should have: stunning animation, character development and interesting and original plotline. No matter what genre of media you prefer this anime grabs your interest regardless. As an action fan I came in to this anime expecting an average romantic series having previously seen kimi no na wa (your name) and wanted a fuller grasp of this genre. As a miniature series: this blew me away. The pacing was ridiculously amazing with no boring moment, the drawn animation was filled with intricate attention and the development of Violet herself as she progresses is tear-jerking and phenonenal. This truly highlights the potential of anime- it makes sense this series regards violet as a doll as I truly believe it was made and cared for with the love a child would give to one. Do not listen to any negative or positive comments you may hear until you watch it for yourself and you can see why I am blown away at how good this anime is. To conclude, it does not matter what genre you like- even if your a diehard horror fan: this animation will bring tears to your eyes.
DARLING in the FRANXX (2018)
A must watch for those with a romantic taste
This anime is a perfect example of a pacing masterpiece. They get more done in 24 episodes than most get done in 200. That being said the plot has many holes and the character development is severely lacking which is obviously due to the short time frame and so you cannot really blame the animators. Those looking for a heavily hormonal very much teenage anime this is your pick of the century. In no case can this be argued to be one of the best but I can vouch for its completely original plot and characters- regardless of the fact that they aren't developed. Thoroughly enjoyed and gives the one of the best romantic deliveries of all time in the anime medium. (P.s the obvious sexual innuendos are very cringey therefore funny for those who have heard)
Yoru wa mijikashi aruke yo otome (2017)
Crazy...
This film really had a lot packed into it. I first came in to this film looking for a fun experience and was not disappointed. Although I understood about 20%; I've never seen a more fun anime in my life. As far are spiritual or destined romantic animes go this is obviously not meant to be but I am certain it delivers one of the best visual experiences and comedic stances in an animation medium and im sure most would agree.
Tokyo Ghoul: re (2018)
Sad...
I personally have never read the manga but from the reviews I have heard I am sure it is amazing but judging solely from this season of Tokyo Ghoul: this story sucks... The convoluted plot is frankly a chore to watch and I found myself wishing I never started so my OCD wouldn't force me to finish this awful season. Everytime the plot would be the same where there would be new ghouls introduced in the same episode to fight either Kaneki or the newly introduced "quinxes" who none of us really cared about as we were more so focused on what had happened to the original characters which the animators made us care about for TWO WHOLE SEASONS. Even when we ended up meeting them, and the story between Kanaki and Touka (which was extremely rushed by the way), I found myself confused at what was going on and who these newly introduced characters were. Lastly the fights and characters were so underwhelming and the final fight lasted half an episode which is frankly ridiculous for a final climax fight- time could have simply been taken from the stupid story of the quinx family instead of the final fight. Overall my advice would be to look for reviews on the manga in comparison with this anime, watch the first season at least as it is amazing and watch some animes worth your while i.e. a series that has consistent quality e.g. death note, attack on titan and even Naruto which has a more structured plot despite being the most stretched out anime in existence.
Kimi no na wa. (2016)
You need to see this...
Kimi no na wa (Your Name) is by far the most transcendent piece of animation I have ever seen. Every frame of this animation is stunning and reminds me of a painting in every shot. The storytelling also advances far beyond the Western love generalisation and moves far beyond a sexual or "meant to be" cliche connoted from this and in to a beautiful spiritual bond that needs to be witnessed in order to fully appreciate the meticulous and intricate love that was put into this film to create this sense.
It Chapter Two (2019)
Sub-Par Jumpscares
The story line was interesting as a movie it invested me to find out about the main protagonists and Pennywise's stories. However, the jump scares were not up to a horror movie standerd and fails to provide a genuine scare for the drama - this is because the scares were predictable which gave people a lomg sense of time to prepare for them. Other than that, there were purely creepy and weird scenes that made many want to cover their eyes in both fear and confusion which is a success.
Joker (2019)
Profound Acting - Terrible Story
Joaquin Phoenix is such an amazing actor and truly displays the development of metal health issues as his life contains more and more problems. Although there is phenomenal acting, the film is let down by a terrible story line which is frankly boring. Would 100% reccomend people to watch this, not for the story, but to see the pure deterioration of Arthur Fleck's mind portrayed by one of the best actor of all time.
