Stargate Universe (2009–2011)

it's not Atlantis... thank god
15 January 2010
Thank you SciFi for breathing new life to the Stargate franchise. The Atlantis spin-off was the peak of Stargate absurdity. The Stargate series were the typical 1990s science fiction series having mono-dimensional characters, absurd and shallow story... SGU finally brings Stargate in the 21st century.

The thing that I find most entertaining is the fact that there is no good or bad tag imprinted on the forehead of every character in the show... finally the characters have some depth! Some users complained through their reviews about the lack of space battles and the "abundance" of sex scenes. For me this represents an improvement because the characters are not neutered, as were the ones from the older Stargate shows. They, now, lack the childish perfection of Daniel Jackson or Jack O'Neil, but for the first time, they have depth and complexity.

Finally I must say that the soundtrack is amazing giving the show extra flavor.

For now the show is on a good track, hopefully the second season will continue on it.

my comment may contain spoilers... but I'm not sure
20 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I think that if you change the genre of this movie to comedy/horror instead of thriller/horror most of the viewers would enjoy watching this "masterpiece". I mean, come on!!! the thing with the anvil and the old hag was something that you can see in a Bugs Bunny cartoon. The only way I could watch this movie, was with my fingers stuck deep in my ears, hoping that I wouldn't go deaf by the time it ended. The acting was woody, at best. If you don't consider this movie a comedy, that is.

The way that the old gypsy woman sucked the face of the main character should be considered toilet humor, at best. I actually feel insulted that the director thought that anyone should be scared by this movie.

If you want to see a real horror movie, I beg all of you, who are tempted: avoid this one at all cost!!!

fairy like sets
28 February 2007
I gave this movie a 5 rating, because it deserves it. The sets were beautiful, but lets be honest, especially us Romanians. We know what Bucharest is like, and you really have to look deep to find that sort of inner beauty. At time it resembles that city from the movie, but normally Bucharest, is not as romantic as the movie portrays it.

I enjoyed the movie, but was very disappointed by how it ends, very sudden. The ending didn't fit the storyline, not one bit. The acting was mediocre, but acceptable. Another user described Viviane as robotic, this word pops in my mind as well. The movie, is not a masterpiece, but I enjoyed that description of Bucharest, which most of the time, eludes us.

Battlestar Galactica (2004–2009)

the best
18 January 2007
This is the best SciFi produced show ever. The show is "huge" it has everything for everyone. There are well developed characters, breathtaking action scenes, romantic developments and so on .The acting is excellent. There are a lot of series and movies with very famous actors that don't have such fine acting. The character are credible, real. No more black and white characters like other SF like Stargate or Andromeda. The social background of the Battlestar Galactica universe is complex, it has achieved a level of depth , in 3 seasons that other series cannot in 10.I haven't seen the original so i cannot compare this one with it .It doesn't matter that you're not a SF freak, because I think you would enjoy this one.

It was a real disappointment
12 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I am disappointed that people ranked this movie at around 7, because the acting is horrendous. It seems that George Lucas wasn't really concerned with acting, because there were some pretty good actors like Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor, and they failed to make this movie worth watching. The CGI effects were of questionable quality. I believe that the hardcore fans of the Star Wars series ranked this movie so high, because it has the name "Star Wars" in the title. They failed to judge the movie for what it really was. The only scene that was worth watching, was the scene were Obi Wan is fighting with Anakin. All in all this movie is poor, considering that it was the most expected movie of the year, it was a real disappointment.
