a masterpiece
25 February 2009
this is certainly one of the best movie this year, i like the story, i like the screenplay, i like the scene through the film, i like the actors in the movie... it's a sad story, sad in the heart. it's the crash between compassion and sensibility. it's the complexity of life, human being's life. i appreciate the structure of the story, when Hahna left Micheal suddenly, when she confessed the crime falsely, when Micheal changed his mind at the gate of the detention...and when Micheal at last met her before her release, that scene made me cry. i appreciate the performance by the cast, of course Kate Winslet did her best in this movie, her expression is unforgettable in our mind.

A movie unforgotten
6 October 2008
This is my first movie which made me weeping. The first time I watched it in cinema was in eighties last century, as a very young man, I maybe could not understand everything in the story,or the history, but I wept, could not help, when I had seen old Osaki crying with Keiko's towel in her hand. This scene has been stayed in my mind forever since that moment. From this film, I have understood that a movie could make you cry! More than twenty years after I watched it,now, as a forty-four years old man, when I had watched the DVD again, it still makes me cry! That is pain in your heart when you see the old woman, now I understand everything in the story, I understand that's the pain of life, pain of the fate. This is not only a movie, but a lesson which teaches us something about humanity, so emotionally. In my heart,Kinuyo Tanaka was the one of greatest actress in the world,I love her, because of "Sandakan No. 8 ",because of her skillful performance, because she has impressed me so much,so long time, because she also made me call her: mum!

A third-class big movie
5 August 2008
John Woo is the one of the best directors in Hong Kong,he is also the only famous one there who has made films in Hollywood, like "face off",that i praised. But I think the "Chibi" is just so so. Is it a history drama? not very much. is it a martial art action movie? being little like. is it a funny film? maybe not,is it a love story? not clearly. I can't find Mr.Woo's trace in Chibi, this is a movie you can't make sure what kind of it is, no style at all. The worst is the war scene in the end, less reality, more martial art action, and a little funny. so I think it's just a third-class movie, except the beautiful wide scale scene.,Mr.Woo has been lost in Chibi? maybe.

a film of love and courage
13 July 2008
First time to watch Ye Lou's movie, I think it's not a perfect film, but certainly it's a good one.He is good at depicting the love deep in the heart:the love with desire, contradiction, unfaith, loss and the future. The film can remind your past time while you were young, can make you miss your lost romantic, can make you think over the love, the youth. So, a beautiful love drama it is.I also have to mention this backdrop of the 6/4 incident happened in Beijing in 1989 in the movie,as I known, no other directors in China dared to take this backdrop in any movies up to now, so I respect Mr.Lou's courage. At last I think the best character in the drama is Li Ti played by Ling Hu .The flaw of the film is at the end when Yu Hong and Zhou Wei met, I think, the process is not very good.

Life was heavy
29 March 2008
This is the best movie Mr. Chen Kaige has made.I was totally hit by his amazing talent to make such a heavy film ,through the film he told us the Chinese Beijing Opera players'lives at different times in Chinese history, the feelings of them, their love, sad, happy,desperate,mad... The cinematography was perfect by Mr.Gu Changwei. I like his speciality very much,I think especially he is good at the red color when he is shooting,in this movie, the scene of Juxian's suicide is excellent,I think, her red wearing was the focus of the scene,by the music of "Red Lamp" arising, this scene was the best one in this movie. The story happened in the Cultural Revelotion times was very real, moving, and very heavy. Of course, this is one of the best movie made by Chinese.

a colorful movie
15 February 2007
Firstly,Zhang Yimou has made a colorful masterpiece, color is always his specialty,he is good at it. Secondly, I like the performance by Gong Li, she always has the ability to act emotively,I like her,so is Zhou Runfa,I enjoy his work. Both are my favorite Chinese actors. I especially like the song sang by Zhou Jielun at the end of the movie which is very very nice and made me moved much more, it's the best music explaining the story. The flaw of the movie is the character of the third prince, the cast is wrong, because the actor's appearance is too young, so the plot he killed his brother and wanted to take the power from the king is a little stupid,it's unbelievable.
