On the Road in Iraq with Our Troops and Gary Sinise (2009)
Fascinating story -- left me wanting to see much more!
Truly a fascinating subject, this special scratches the surface of what Gary Sinise and the Lieutenant Dan band have done for U.S. troops. Regardless of ones opinions on the war in Iraq, the need to recognize the American men and women who are put in the fight is often overlooked. Gary Sinise and his team devote their own time and money to show this appreciation to our troops. This is an act that truly needs to be commended and its unfortunate that its not replicated by more celebrity personalities. I was actually inspired by Gary's efforts. I really enjoyed being introduced to this story but I would have loved to see more.
Kisses and Caroms (2006)
A great laugh and a lot of fun!
This is a great film. A really original screen play and a solid independent comedy. The film takes place in suburban LA and it focuses on billiard store owner Zack who frets between his ex-girlfriend Jen and the sex life of an active bachelor. His girlfriend wants to organize a threesome to prove to Zack that she can be the woman of his fantasies. Zack has sidekick is his buddy David. A guy who idolizes Hugh Hefner. The film is filled with wacky but well thought out characters including a hilarious angry midget and a gun wielding psychiatrist. I laughed all the way through and was really amazed at the production quality of this indie comedy. It was funnier than almost any studio comedy I saw this year. Vince Rocca has a truly original movie here and I can't wait to see what he does next.
Nacho Libre (2006)
A great laugh and a lot of fun!
I saw this at the LA premiere at the Chinese Mann Theater. The audience was laughing so much at times, it was hard to hear the film. Jack Black may at times go over the top but he more than makes up for it with some moments of real genius. Besides the obvious jokes there's an intelligent, awkward humor here for those who look for it. Some critics are saying the plot is too predictable. C'mon. This is often an issue with critics trying to take storytelling in comedies too seriously. If a comedy succeeds in making you laugh all the way through, who the heck cares? Were you going to this movie to feel suspense or to pee your pants laughing? If the latter, you'll love this film.
