Kôdo Giasu: Hangyaku no Rurûshu (2006)
Overrated to be called a "Masterpiece"
For a show to be called a masterpiece, every aspect of it, however small and big, needs to be perfect. This show, although solid at parts, is not perfect. I will give it that it starts off with a promising concept, but as the show goes on, you realize you need a lot of patience to go through with it. This will be my analysis.
I started watching Code Geass after watching a review on Cowboy Bebop, saying it was far from a masterpiece and I should watch Code Geass to witness a true masterpiece. Although I can agree with the statement that Cowboy Bebop is overrated (don't get me wrong, Cowboy Bebop still has some solid episodes and a killer soundtrack, but it lacks consistency), neither is Code Geass. The show starts of promising, but then after a few episodes in, it quickly dabs off again. Some episodes are solid and bring on some important, deep and even dark themes, but once again, it lacks TEMPO. The shows pace is it's one biggest flaw. I found myself yawning at several episodes, especially the mid-section of the show and throughout from there. Also another weakness of the show is it's animation, there is not much to brag about here, but then again, a show can still be great without revolutionary animation, but once again, to claim the title of "a masterpiece", every piece needs to be perfect. Also, the anime is confusing, especially later on in the show, so if you like straightforward animes, do not watch this!
Here is every section of it ranked, from my honest opinion:
Soundtrack: 6/10 - Some tracks are solid, and there are clearly references to baroque and classical music, but unfortunately, we get too little of it or it doesn't hit as hard. Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a prime example of how to do this right.
Concept: 8/10 - The concept is one of the bigger strengths of this anime, without going too much into details, it is a very excellent concept, had it only been executed perfectly.
Plot: 8/10 - The storyline is also solid, and there are links throughout the show. You can tell and feel that the writer really spent their time writing this plot.
Consistency: 7/10 - Once again, if you see the bigger picture of this show, it is undoubtedly great, just not perfect.
Tempo: 2/10 - Even at the parts where this show is supposed to be fast paced, I still found myself uninterested, and it gets worse later into the show. If you want an anime that has episodes that feel like they all move together in one fell swoop, this is not the show for you! There will be slow episodes mixed in the blend.
Engagement: 5/10 - This one is highly subjective, but for me, some parts did have me screaming "Come on Zero, you can do it", or something similar. I just WISH there was more of them, and that is exactly what separates this from being a masterpiece.
Characters: 6/10 - I found myself mostly interested in the main characters, but we also got the depth of some of the side characters, I still think this could have been executed better though.
I will give it that it has solid parts throughout, and the parts that are good are NEARLY perfect, but still too far off to be called a masterpiece. The ending hits hard though. If you want an anime that perfectly blends music, plot and engagement (among other things), an anime that excels and goes beyond, a "true" masterpiece, then watch Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood!
Wolfgang A. Mozart (1991)
Amadeus (1984) = More fiction, Mozart (1991) = More facts.
I am not saying Amadeus (1984) is a bad film, it is in fact very entertaining, but for all the Mozart-geeks out there, or just someone who loves Mozart, Wolfgang A. Mozart (1991) will certainly deliver to your expectations. One reason for this is that it takes real known facts about Mozart's life and blends it with colorful cinematic images. Examples include Mozart's devotion to the Weber-family's eldest sister Aloysia Weber, how the Requiem mass was commissioned by count Franz von Walsegg (not Salieri, like in Amadeus), how Süßmayr helped Mozart complete the Requiem (once again, not Salieri), or how the family doctor Dr. Nikolaus Closset tapped Mozart's blood which might have contributed to his early death. Another reason is the great acting, the lead actor, Alexander Lutz (among others), does an outstanding job as portraying our beloved musical genius.
All in all a great film, 10/10!
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
DISASTER MOVIE (I had to create an IMDb account to write this)
This movie was so bad that I made an IMDb account to tell every Star Wars fan (of episode 1-6) how bad it is. It's a disgrace to every Star Wars fan out there, I think this new trilogy sucks so much that I would go back in time and wish I never saw it. Now I can't remove it from my mind. I will only try to think of episode 1-6 as Star Wars. The rest is some Disney wanna make money crap. I'm gonna leave the more detailed reviews to some other people, I just want you guys to know how furious I am over this!!
