I wish people here would stop trying to be producers and directors...
15 November 2020
And the acting police. 1. For all the crappy movies I have to wade through to actually find something worth watching these days is like finding a particular needle in a stack of needles. 2. This movie had an original plot, decent acting (despite what another "reviewer" had complained), it was creepy, and you didn't know the ending 30 minutes into it. 3. I gave this movie an eight because it's actually one of the better creepy movies I've seen in three months. I don't know about all of you, but indie movies are starting to grind on my nerves. I have to turn on the subtitles because I can't understand what they're saying most of the time. And then you have these user reviewers who critically acclaim movies where there's some hidden meaning in the ending that leaves you asking, "wtf was that and why did I just waste ninety minutes of my life I'll never get back to watch that bunk?"

So, this movie is not fantasy as another review suggests. It's a very decent horror movie that I think most people will enjoy.

Gothic Fiction, you posted the EXACT SAME REVIEW FOR ANOTHER MOVIE I WATCHED RECENTLY...
10 November 2020
At least show some original thought. As for the movie: good plot, good acting, great cinematography, all on a low budget. It's not a barn-burner and don't expect it to jump-scare you. It is horror I suppose, but it could also be considered psychological thriller. All in all, a very watchable movie.

Okay, not many reviews on this one yet, so here's my take...
7 November 2020
Acting: actually very, very good. Cinematography: again, A+. Special effects: that all depends on your taste of blood and gore. Personally, I thought it had some gruesome parts, but not over the top. Here's why I only rated it an 8 out of 10: scare factor. In the beginning of the movie, the mystery of the entity is definitely malevolent and seems to enjoy taking its time before a kill. Cool concept. But as the movie moves along, the scares become more predictable and the main characters, as seemingly level headed as they are, don't act rationally, in my opinion, and then the movie becomes a house of cards at the end and collapses without a proper ending. I'm trying not to give too much away because I don't want you to think it's a bad movie. Just could have been better, and that was disappointing. I would, however, recommend it as there are not many options for good movies period right now. Compared to some of the other junk I've had to endure lately, this is like the Hope Diamond.

You may be disappointed with the build-up...
3 November 2020
I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but I know a good horror movie when I see it, even if the ending leaves you scratching your head, which this one did. This movie dragged me in, peaking my curiosity with all of the flashbacks, weird sounds, and an older woman who you think in the beginning has been through some traumatic event and emerges out of nowhere without explanation. Pretty good setup. The acting is awesome from all characters involved. The plot is a slow burn, but you feel it building up to something although you're not given a clue as to what. Which brings me to my problem with the movie and why I only gave it a 7. It left way too many things unexplained satisfactorily to me. Just when I think we're getting to the climax of the movie, and things earlier in the film are going to make sense, well, they just don't. Not to me, anyway. And the gratuitous, suspenseful very last moment of the movie threw the entire alzheimer's premise out of the old cabin window. Why was that even necessary to add to the ending? Too many questions unexplained, so I assume it's either over my head or some things could have been left on the editing room floor.

Man, what's with all the haters?

This movie had some actual, original thought put into it. I'm 51 years old and I found it entertaining. Some of you "critics" out there think everything should be as scary as Sinister or The Exorcism. Not every horror movie needs to be geared towards an adult audience. I'm not going to lecture anyone on what their taste in movies should be, but this was rated PG13 and had some decent scary moments. I recommend it.

Okay, so it was bad... but,
30 October 2020
How many new movies have you seen lately that are good? I mean, seriously, I can't believe this was a Blumhouse picture, because most of their stuff is reasonably well produced. And yes, this was dripping with wokeness. I also didn't think David Duchovny should have played the love interest of Lily's mom. He's looking a little long in the tooth for that part these days. I gave it a 4 because I'm lowering the bar on tripping across a good movie these days. If you have some time to kill with your teenage daughter, she'll probably love it.

Did you notice the dates posted on all the "great" reviews?
22 October 2020
This movie wasn't great. It wasn't even good. The only reason I finished it is because there just aren't any good movies coming out right now. I did watch Unhinged last night, and I would highly recommend it. This one is honestly a waste of time.

Okay, I'm tired of these movies that don't have a definitive ending already!

Warning: Spoilers
What is it with these new horror movies that leave you guessing what the ending is supposed to mean? Am I just that thick that I'm the only one person who's left thinking, "What the hell was that?" I don't think I'm giving anything away here to call this a spoiler. The rest of the film was enjoyable, and the acting was well done. I'll leave it up to you to decide your own interpretation of the ending.

Waste of time
3 October 2020
Don't be fooled by the 10 STAR ratings. What a load of manure. I wasted 48 minutes of the time I have left on this earth to watch this tripe. The acting was horrible. Even after 48 minutes I still had no clue what was going on. I think I'd rather have Coranavirus than sit through the remainder of this movie. For those of you who decide to watch this, I won't "ruin" the first 48 minutes by telling you what happens.

Worst 20 minutes of my life

I have nothing good to even say about this movie. Mom always said that if you don't have anything good to say about something, just don't say anything. That's my review.

Why can't some people just have fun?
24 September 2020
I saw some bad reviews on here AFTER watching the movie, so I just thought I would add my own opinion. Why would you hate on a movie like this? Especially if you're my age and remember all these classic games. The cameos were outstanding, and I didn't expect it to win any Oscars. Man, some people need to lighten up. Was Ghostbusters trashed like this?

I can't believe I had never heard of this movie...
23 September 2020
All I can say is: Brilliant. It is definitely reminiscent of Crank. I happen to enjoy different, and this movie exceeded my expectations and then some. The character Jimmy is just as entertaining, if not more so, than Henry. It took me a minute to catch on when Jimmy would get killed and show up as another character. Great acting job there, btw. Personally, I would love to see this movie made into a FPS. I'd buy it. You can always expand on the story in a game, and you already have so much to work with. For the people who didn't like this movie, I'd love for you to explain why. It's not the greatest movie I've ever seen, not even the best action film, but when a movie actually leaves an impression on me after it's over, then it's a good movie. I won't put any spoilers in here, but I have to wonder whatever became of Henry after it was over...?

Why are people calling this great?
21 September 2020
This was just a terrible movie, period. Senseless, idiotic, bad acting, horrible plot, and the props! Wow, this thing must have been a really, really low budget creation. From beginning to end this movie was tripe. I think some people are getting used to bad movies because not many are being made/released at the moment, so naturally standards aren't as high as they should be. That's the only reason I gave it 3 stars, even though I almost fell asleep watching it.

Most horror fans will be disappointed
20 September 2020
Actually, the first half of this movie is better than the second half. The second half just wants to be a poor remake of Hostel and Saw. I don't want there to be any spoilers in my review, but let's just say the ending could REALLY have been better. As for the acting, it was mediocre at best. If you're like me, though, and you've absolutely run out of movies to watch, I gave it 5 stars only because everything else that's new sucks worse than this.

Head Spinner

All I can say is, this movie moves like a lava lamp. When one plot rises to the top, it rotates and another takes its place. There are a couple of holes in the overall story, which given more time and thought could have easily been filled. Maybe they were and ended up on the editing room floor. All in all, I wasn't sure I was going to like this movie because I'm not a huge fan of Justin Long. But his effort in being the main character still works. My only disappointment was with the ending. Some of you may disagree; everyone has a right to their opinion. I simply thought it was a little weak after having a very good plot to work with. It's definitely worth watching, though.

About 1-1/2 hours of my life wasted...
10 September 2020
I usually try to find something redeeming in every movie I watch. I predicted every part of this movie before it happened.

You would think this girl would have to learn some basic survival techniques to work at Brighton. Apparently they have a labor shortage. This movie had a series of clichés the likes of which I don't see often. How did this get such a high rating on this site and Rotten Tomatoes? I wanted to throw rotten tomatoes at my TV while watching this tripe.

No spoilers. You won't need them.

Overall, a good movie.

Warning: Spoilers
This movie, like others that I enjoy until the end, leaves me with more questions than answers. Obviously Kristen Stewart's character is in tune with the spirit world, and (SPOILER ALERT!), we even get a glimpse of her brother towards the end. So why can't she make contact with him throughout the entire movie?! Even at the end we're left wondering who she's talking to. Most film critics find this appealing for some reason. I find it frustrating. Anyway, kudos to Kristen Stewart for her acting performance. She is much better in this setting than Twilight. Actually, solid performances all around. Last point: she leaves Paris to go to someplace in the desert. Her boyfriend, whom she hasn't seen in some time, is supposed to be expecting her after a long flight and five hour drive, but he's not even there to greet her? That was too convenient for the setup to the conclusion of the movie...

I watched 35 minutes of this movie and couldn't take anymore. This is an awful waste of film and anyone's time who sits through it.

I disagree with the poor reviews...
2 September 2020
This movie scored points with me on the basis of mainly what I was looking for: Did I get some good scares out of it? My answer was definitely yes, there were some well thought out places in the movie that were genuinely scare-worthy.

One thing this movie had that others that are "found footage", or whatever you want to call them, that also appealed to me, unlike many other movies of this genre, was that the investigators actually reviewed things caught on camera, whereas several other movies (Paranormal movies come to mind), the people setting up cameras to catch strange occurrences don't bother to review the footage of what happens while they're sleeping, which, oddly enough, is when most activity happens in these types of movies.

This is not really a spoiler, but will make you scratch your head. The ending seems to have just been thrown together and ruined for me what I considered a very decent movie.
