The Locksmith (2023)
Wooden acting. Plot holes the size of Mack trivks
Most of the dialogue was forced and stilted. You felt like the actors were being made to say their lines at gunpoint. The entire story was 100% predictable with no unusual plot, twists whatsoever. The holes in the plot were humongous. 1 Why would two vice officers pull over a guy on a traffic stop? 2 no person in their right mind would not make a copy of the flash drive. 3 no law enforcement officer of any caliber would ever place sensitive evidentiary information in an unlocked desk drawer. It would go to an evidence room, or a safe as an absolute minimum. 4 every time Kate Bosworth's character is going to a crime scene. She fails to call into her superior, who she already knows, is not corrupt and could be trusted with the information. She could easily call while she was driving, which would provide her with back up and also provide her superior with background if something were to happen to her. 5 Ryan Phillipe's character delivers a line in the locksmith shop, which is totally too late when they should've been communicating before that. 6 when one of the corrupt police officers hold the child hostage he is completely exposed his entire body, so that he could easily be shot and save the child. 7 call girl just happens to be an expert marksman in the middle of the night at quite a distance under a lot of stress. I'm pretty sure there's a lot of guys in the army which couldn't be that accurate with a handgun.
There are other smaller plot errors, but my brain is tired.
Shotgun Wedding (2022)
Really not even average
Great scenery and A list actors but moronic, predictable plot and dozens of huge plot holes - so many I can't even list them all. Suffice to say NO ONE being threatened as they are would act so hair brained. Example: when being pursued by two gunmen, they dispatch one but the other one is no where around even though, moments before, the two gunmen were within sight of each other. Then they are in the kitchen with dozens of ways to cut the zip ties but they choose the one method sure to lead to catastrophe. Once I start a film I usually stay till the end but this was so stupid I actually turned it off.
Blue Bayou (2021)
Lead actors super
I certainly did not know Alicia V could sing like that. And perfect English with no accent in dialogue or singing. The child actor was better than most children as well. Congratulations to Chon for the writing and acting. Very eye opening to see how misguided and poorly written the laws often are. The actual consequences make absolutely no sense based on the intent behind the law.
I have a couple of quibbles: First, if he was a critical witness / victim in a serious criminal case, his deportation would be suspended until the criminal case was over. Second, if he missed his hearing through no fault of his own as a result of being kidnapped and assaulted, he easily could have moved the court for a second hearing.
The Real Top Guns (2021)
Narration takes away from substance
The film was educational and interesting but the narration supposedly by actors using the words of actual top gun pilots was EXTREMELY wooden and stilted. Sounded like computer generated voices with no inflection. Also, the flying sequences were very limited and you saw the same video clip multiple times throughout.
Vanquish (2021)
How bad could a movie be with Morgan Freeman - oh! Damn! Bad!
Shallow plot. Wooden acting. Extremely predictable plot. Ruby Rose is not really an actress - just a vehicle for fight sequences. If you eliminated all the film time spent on pointless motorcycle riding up and down the highway, it would be a 15 min film! I wanted to like it because of Morgan Freeman, but it was so bad I stopped watching before the first hour. I was not even willing to invest 30 min more for curiosity sake.
Enhanced (2019)
Cheesy
Moved way too slow. Gaps in plot. Very unrealistic fight / action scenes. Example: at end when soldier had a reasonably powerful weapon, he only fires one or two shots instead of just emptying the magazine. Dialogue stilted.
Without Remorse (2021)
To many disconnects
Not as bad as some rate it but certainly not great because it lacks all credibility. As a sop to wokeness - a SEAL Team female leader? Come on, no real purpose for that others than political correctness. It would have also helped if she could act, but she was very wooden. When the second SEAL gets gunned down in his car, the van could not get away in all the traffic. After one, but certainly after two SEAL Team deaths, all the members would have been warned and on alert. In prison they would throw gas to disable the prisoner or hit him w/ taser or non-lethal rounds, not fight him hand to hand. When John goes back to get gear, how in the world does he float the large outboard motor to the surface? If the Russian shot down a spy plane, they would have swarms of recon aircraft, choppers and boats on the crash site but the team just motors away w/o incident. Also, they motor through a busy shipyard w/p anyone noticing. How did Ritter so easily get into Russia? How did John get the SecDef out of the bathroom without being seen - especially since he had 2 bodyguards outside? When the car went over the bridge and hit the water, the airbags certainly would have deployed. No explanation how they held a funeral w/ no body or why the news reports on SecDef's death would reported a suicide when they left him restrained in the passenger's seat. I wish the inconsistencies were less notable so it didn't drag the movie down. I really wanted to like it but it was very mediocre.
Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
Utter nonsense
The premise is preposterous, the plot stupid and every single action sequence is worse than unbelievable - you have to stupid to think that any of could be possible. I mean climbing on the outside of a bomber at speed and altitude - I can't figure out if the is supposed to be campy or a person is supposed to suspend belief. Acting is pretty marginal too.
Intensive Care (2018)
Completely unbelievable
Nothing made sense. She had a satellite phone but never called police. Could have escaped five times but didn't. She failed multiple times to finish off a robber leaving them to come back over and over (real special ops never would do that). Robbers could have easily killed her multiple times but went off on some silly macho tangent. Really corny dialogue. Stupid plot twists like 2 hangings that don't kill a person or even render them unconscious. The matter of a murdered deputy that she wouldn't be able to explain. Why would she show the grandkid the money and then leave it completely unsecured? I only watched to the end to see if it would tie up loose ends and make any sense. It didn't. Horrible waste of time and money.
Shadow Wolves (2019)
Horrible dialogue
The actors aren't entirely bad and the plot could be OK. However all of the dialogue is 100% cliché and predictable. It makes the actors seem lame. And then there are the logical inconsistencies. Just for one simple example of a man is not down and he leaves his rifle right on the ground and continues to pursue the bad guy for hand to hand combat. The villain is 100% stereotype and very lame dialogue
Hunt to Kill (2010)
Sooooo illogical
A person doesn't take a gut shot and continue to bounce around for hours / days. He has a bow and homemade arrows. He wastes four arrows on the computer geek, doesn't recover the arrows and then, suddenly, he is w/o the bow. He has a few spears he made. However, the computer geek had a gun - why didn't he take it? Then he has time to build an elaborate hiding place to spring up, but decides to fight the bad guy with fists! Amazing, the other bad guys don't hear anything about this extended fight going on behind the. Also, presumably that guy also had a gun which he doesn't take. Twice, the daughter manages to step right on the stone arrows he placed on the ground in the middle of a vast forest. Half the time there is significant snow on the ground, half the time it is green. The action is ok, the dialogue inane.
