Rat Race (2001)
A good, laugh-out-loud comedy!
I saw this movie a couple of years ago and caught it in the middle as it was showing on television. Soon after a few minutes, I ended up watching it 'til the end. It was so hilariously funny, it didn't take but a moment to realize it was a good movie. Never a dull moment while watching it, it enlightened me to see that all my favorite actors were in the movie. I loved seeing the adorable Rowan Atkinson appear in the movie, remembering his early performances from his days as Mr. Bean, I thought that he was a delightful choice to be in this particular kind of story. This all star cast (Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Lovitz, Seth Green, Cuba Gooding Jr.) are up to their usual scene stealing performances to go on this journey of destructful hunting for what is promised to make them rich. Awaiting for the one person that gets there first $2 million dollars at the finish line. Every actor gives a very funny performance that I enjoyed each and every one of. I thought this movie was very interesting and geniusly written for each character portrayed by each talented actor we've all seen and loved in our favorite movies growing up. This movie is great for on-going laughs, no violence or sexual content. For anybody who likes movies with a good sense of humor, this is the one.
Quicksilver Highway (1997)
"Does every movie have to have a moral?"
The movie itself is not a great movie but not a bad one either. There are two stories tied together but is shown in different orders. The Body Politic and Chattering Teeth. I've seen this movie about a couple months ago on the weekends, on regular TV that is, and it was shown The Body Politic first. I buy the DVD and then it is Chattering Teeth shown first. Not that I'm complaining, some how the way it comes together in any different order makes it seem like the original. It all plays out evenly throughout the entire 90 minutes. Christopher Lloyd portrays Aaron Quicksilver as the traveling showman, and gives a chilling and spooky Gothic performance, not to mention wardrobe. A must-see movie for the Christopher Lloyd fan indeed, this is not your average quirky Uncle Fester character. Also performances by Matt Frewer who brilliantly plays two characters. One a memorable surgeon who cant seem to control his hands, a body part that turn against him and form a mind of their own. Couldn't have been played by a better actor. Finally the Chattering Teeth story is less chilling than the previous story mentioned, but in all still fun to watch. We don't realize in the beginning of the story how useful a pair of metal made choppers can be to a traveling salesman who picks up a hitch hiker along his journey. Raphael Sabarge gives a believable performance in this worst case scenario story of the classic psychotic hitch hiker, a truly psychotic and aggressive performance played by Silas Weir Mitchell. Not a must-see, but movie to get to know because after all, it is a Stephen King/ Clive Barker team project. Don't know whether to be scared or laugh out loud. My favorite Christopher Lloyd quote of the movie "Does every story have to have a moral or a point?"
Cold Case: Sherry Darlin' (2003)
A predictable mystery and lost love gone bad
Agent Lilly Rush investigates an elderly woman's murder, suspecting the victim's grandson may have something to do with it. Turns out something more to the story than a case of possible family homicide. Catherine Morris gives a firm performance as Lilly Rush while interrogating the victim's grandson for further details. Silas Weir Mitchell plays the grandson and possible suspect James Hogan, who gives a brilliant performance, both chilling and convincing. It also combines a mystery/homicide with details of lost love of an ex-girlfriend from the past. Good show, very predictable, but worth watching if you want to remember your old first loves at youth.
