Andor (2022)
Slow, boring and definitely not Star Wars
Please god Disney just stop it already.
Andor is a generic SF show, other than the mention of the Empire and some ships with a resemblance to others there is nothing that marks it out as specifically Star Wars.
It is slow, boring and only of use if you're having trouble sleeping that's the only thing I can recommend it for, it will save you money on sleeping tablets.
The lead character is uninteresting, the flash backs likewise, the storyline glacial and I'm out after 2 episodes because life is far too short for this.
The actors do what they can with what they have but what they have to work with isn't great. If it wasn't labeled as Star Wars then perhaps I'd cut it some slack.
Sack Kathleen Kennedy before she ruins Star Wars anymore.
American Underdog (2021)
Curious casting choices don't help this movie
OK, sporting biopics are usually a real hit or miss and this one comes in the meh category barely scraping over the bar like a 55 yard field goal attempt.
I like Zachary Levi, was he believable as Kurt Warner? No, not in the slightest, he was way too old and that curious casting decision did hurt this movie.
It's not the only thing thing that hurt it, the first time I saw Kurt Warner play in the flesh was against the Scottish Claymores when he was with the Amsterdam Admirals in NFL Europe, yet no mention of his incredible season there. I know the NFL fans looked down on it for being a developmental league but it generated some great players.
Overall though the movie works.
House of the Dragon (2022)
Enjoyable and fun
I was never a fan of the original show, probably because I didn't like the books. This prequel on the other hand I haven't read the books and I'm enjoying it immensely.
This show is showing Amazon how a fantasy show should be made.
Matt Smith, Paddy Considine and Rhys Ifans are very fine actors and their ability shines through the cast in general are all doing well. The characterisations are working for me and the relationships are believable.
The effects are decent, the dragons are suitably awe inspiring and the battle scene against the crab feeders troops was very effective.
In all this is definitely worth watching, unlike another fantasy show just started.
Overlord (2018)
Why force diversity into movies?
By showing African American members of the 101st Airborne this movie completely ignores the 555th Airborne regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division which was an all black regiment. It's a small point but I'm a stickler for historical facts, even if the movie is a horror.
Also it's JJ Abrams so don't expect much.
Metal Hurlant Chronicles (2012)
I couldn't even get through the first episode
It's entirely possible, though I doubt it, that this show improves after the first episode. I do know this however, you one try at making a first impression and this show fails spectacularly at that.
It barely deserves 1 star, if I could give it less I would.
200 Proofs Earth Is Not a Spinning Ball (2015)
Lies, damned lies, statistics and then there's Eric Dubay
A liar and a con man whose entire output is promoting the completely debunked and discredited notion that the Earth is flat.
Avoid anything he and his Ilk put out like the plague. You will end much more stupid than you were prior to watching or reading anything of his.
Highlander: The Raven (1998)
Flawed but was worth a second season
Not the best spin off from the Highlander franchise hampered by a lack of chemistry between the two primary characters and a rather jarring location change mid season. It just became another rather boring and repetitive formula show, saved by some very good guest performances.
Amanda would have been far more attractive with her darker hair rather than the somewhat trashy bottle blonde look.
Nick was sometimes a bit too wooden.
